I disliked him even when he played for us. But each to their own.

Ans thats a fair point perhaps it was his Scotland games that made it for me but I remember him and McQueen and enjoyed that period

I did like McQueen and met him once when he was with Martin Buchan. Both pleasant. I never felt Joe was one of us if you know what I mean.

Aye, Buchan was another one I liked, each to their own with players mate and I can kinda see what you mean with Joe but he always said his time with Utd were his best days football wise but you either like a player or not

Always gave 100% and scored some great goals, top man

Met Joe Jordan once, asked him why he left utd, he said because he met some ungrateful fan who apparently told him ‘you aren’t one of us’.

Frank Stapleton was definitely a downgrade on Big Joe.

I am sure Frank was Big Ron's first signing? He brought in a lot of good players - we never had the mentality to win the league, but on our day we were good to watch and we often raised our game against Liverpool back then and could match them, but lacked consistency over a season. The likes of Robson, McGrath, Hughes, Moses, Muhren, Whiteside, Wilkins to name a few, fond memories growing up as a kid

Loved Frankie too.

Frank, like Joe was excellent in the air. Both held the ball up well too. But neither score more than 20 goals a season. After Sexton left, Big Ron was tasked to make United a more attractive watch (it was like paint drying under Sexton) and built a team that was reliant on Bryan Robson who would arrive late in the box. Stapleton held the ball up well and got it out wide which set it up well for Robbo.
