I always thought Warne knew what it takes to get out of L1 and that had to be the priority (and style).
The Champ was always going to need a different approach and he knew that. Just had to get there first.
Since the Jim Smith era we've had many managers...correct me if I'm wrong but I think it amounts to late teens...many of which were just big-time Charlie's...for me Warne has given stability to the club - just when we needed it. Time will tell how he does in the Champ...but for me we're in safe hands for now. Cheers. Terry. UTR
I can understand why a few may be nervous about PW following his recent record in the Champ but Derby are a different proposition from Rotherham in so many ways.
As 2 W says it was great to see (esp agin Chesterfield) how we kept trying to play good football. There were hardly any hopeful punts from the back and for me Kenzo seems largely responsible for melding us into a cohesive ball-playing unit. Again we seemed to fall away a little when he went off yesterday.
All played well but it was encouraging to see Brown, Thommo and Fozzie thrive.
If we are to play four at the back then for me Nyambe, Fozzie, Nelson and Cash should play with Bradley a very useful standby. We should not need midfield players operating as auxiliary FBs when the real FBs needlessly bomb forward esp if we have at least one winger out there.
Also let's not forget that we will soon have Yates back who has looked really sharp and gets in the box.(How good to see Brown doing that yesterday!)
Provided we get in two or three good additions plus Zetterstrom then all should be set fair.
Regardless of Warne I have concerns about the quality of our players compared to the majority of Championship teams, especially up front. Looking at the Smoggers last night they seem to have any number of strikers who look a cut above ours. Warne speaks of pace and power and without that we will struggle.
Ozoh is still very raw. No doubt he will get better as the season progresses but at the moment he is getting found out a little. Kenzo has the quality but needs to adjust to the pace of play in this division. We lack clever players otherwise and look a bit huff and puff with staccato not slick passing. Our defenders are a bit one-paced, that pace being quite slow.
So I think we are up against it. Sometimes though a key signing or two can make the world of difference. Hopefully the fans will stick with the team.
I think it's all about managing expectations. I for one fully expect to be dicing with relegation but hopefully from just above and not from within in the zone for the majority of the season.
The hope that there are 3 worse teams is a nerve wracking approach and whilst it's early days, the assumption that Oxford and Pompey might be two of those teams might be optimistic.
But if the new Mart Poom gets going and our defence is inspired then who knows ....
Difficult to see that many winnable games on paper up to the end of October
As we stand now I'd say the team that got relegated three years ago is far stronger than we have right now and I'm just hoping that we dont get detached at the bottom
Interesting to see how we fare against a decent side Saturday as Blackburn stayed up on the last day last season and havent spent an awful lot this season
To say my expectations are low is an understatement

Expectations should be low, you clearly not the team of previous championship campaigns.
More of you need to accept this, half the away stand had emptied at Blackburn by the time you scored the second goal, that's just totally unacceptable for a promoted team
If you need an example to aspire too, Forest at Fulham last year when we were beat 5-0 the fans stayed to the end chanting louder than the hone fans supporting Cooper and the team 👍
I'm not talking about previous campaigns plural, I'm comparing us to the team that got relegated which I think is fair
That is fine
If the fans walking out are frustrated because Blackburn had scored a couple of goals and they think it's a team you should be beating then they need a mentality adjustment!
Bournemouth spend £40m on a striker. Crazy times.

With a heavy heart I have to agree with everything here.
Great post 2W and I agree with the comments. I've liked what I've seen in terms of our attacking approach and once all our options are back playing together and gelling as a team I can see them hurting the opposition. This season is about PW developing from a L1 specialist to an experienced Championship level manager. It's now a question of what approach is PW gong to take in this division having been considered as a very cautious, defensive minded coach at L1? (his line-up vs Blackburn was very different to his footballing mantra) Clowes will offer him the time and opportunity needed especially when fans will be coming for him around Christmas - which will no doubt happen unfortunately.
Bushwacker's comments prompted me to have a look at our final line-up in the championship 2021/2022 season
(vs Cardiff):
1 Ryan Allsop
3 Craig Forsyth
8 Max Bird
10 Tom Lawrence
11 Ravel Morrison
17 Louie Sibley
32 Malcolm Ebiowei
33 Curtis Davies
38 Jason Knight
41 Eiran Joe Cashin
42 Liam Thompson
Bench
21 Kelle Roos
16 Richard Stearman
35 Louie Watson
36 Festy Ebosele
44 Osazee Aghatiste
48 Luke Plange
49 Bartosz Cybulski
We were probably 6-7 players better off, excluding who we haven't signed (yet). In goal we had Ryan Allsop who I'd consider as a better player to our current GK. Across defence and midfield we had more quality but also unreliability and inconsistency with Sibley and Lawrence rarely offering regular 7+ out of 10 performances.
Depending on what formation(s) PW will be opting for this season between 4-3-3, 5-3-2 and 3-4-3 we're certainly lacking a few key players. I think in midfield we have a better balance ( for PW's style of players) in Adams, Osborn & Ozoh. Bobby Clark continues to be linked but with Bundesliga 1 clubs offering game time we're not looking likely. Like last season PW will be forced into running down the list of targets until we get someone that's 7th, 8th or 9th on the list as we're outbid by financial muscle. That's not on PW. He can encourage players to look at our club but if we can't offer them what they want it's an uphill battle to get real quality in.
In defence we're certainly short by 2-3 players. A leader at this level for central defence, a pacy CB and a strong defensive minded LB. On RD
today PW indicated we've a young midfielder coming in and another player in 2-3 days. I'd like to think the midfielder is a No.8 style player to replace the loss of Jason Knight.
Up front the rumours indicate we're interested in Luton's Cauley Woordrow and I quite like that, given his experience at this level, he had a good scoring record for Barnsley and would do well in a PW style team.
I'm surprised at just how much quality in the free agents pool there still is, one year on and De Gea still hasn't signed for a club! Mat Hummels, Adrien Rabiot, Depay, Matip, James Rodriguez just as examples. Once the household names are snapped up I think there'll still be good Championship quality to find.We managed it late on with Nyambe who had a major impact in improving us defensively and Adams in Jan offering the right balance in midfield. We've another job of finding other clubs rejected players to fit into Warne's style of play and offering us enough to survive. Realistically we shouldn't be expecting a great deal to happen on the pitch in August and I think one point vs Blackburn, Middlesbrough and Bristol City is the best we could hope for.
Late September will be the kickstart of our season with Cardiff & Norwich followed by matches in Oct with Sunderland, QPR, Millwall, Oxford and Hull. Continue to lose all these games then there will be massive concern but I remember Sheff Wednesday had an awful start to the season and are run by a chairman with very little love for club and fans. We're in better hands and will grow into a better footballing team. I'm fascinated to see how Paul Warne develops this year.
