Can't believe Robb is suggesting we sign Danny Welbeck

I have a lot of fondness for Welbeck. Not an elite forward but we've had a lot worse than him in the years since he left. Plays with a smile on his face. Played a role in our last title winning sides having emerged from our academy. It was probably good for his career that he left United, and I've been glad to see his successes at other clubs (and his failure at Arsenal).

A decent hard working professional, and you always need that type of player in your squad. Perhaps it's a sign of where we currently are that he would be considered even if just for a squad spot - would the likes of City / Arsenal / Liverpool have him in their squads?

Klopp had Milner and Arsenal have Jorginho. Sometimes having an older player who’s been around the block helps a younger squad navigate those tricker moments.

I think Cavani’s time at United was a little overrated.

He was very good for the final 3rd of his 1st season but the rest of his 2 seasons were plagued by injury and averageness.

We all know how much I disagreed with the Ronaldo signing but there’s no guarantee Cavani would have remained fit or on form even if we didn’t sign Ronaldo.

I don't doubt that, but we have Evans there, as well as Maguire and Casemiro in that type of role? And as your 2 examples, I would rate Milner and Jorginho higher than Danny. He's not terrible, but I don't think he would add that much to us right now.

Injury prone.

I always liked him though - did think at the time we were making a mistake letting him go for Falcao (with hindsight it wouldn't have made much difference as he can't stay fit)

I dont think we should have sold him anyway, i think it was only £16m, and he could have been a relatively useful home-grown squad player as Robb has said.

That ship has sailed now though.

Javier Hernández being sold was a big mistake by LVG. Welbeck wasn't good.
