I think you might be onto something about them getting him incase of a relegation or points deduction. I could imagine him staying there when that inevitably happens.
I think it's more to do with him and Peps relationship what he will bring to the younger squad players who have made a break through there, still a decent player as well dependant on him not having to play 50 games Id assume?
As for any points deduction, who knows how that will pan out? wonder how many players, if any at all, they would lose? with a points deduction they probs wouldn't even be in danger of leaving the EPL

Barca are a bunch of idiots. Got a quality player for free who was great for them last season and a real leader but now have to let him go because Laporta needs his fancy new toys (a player they let go for free 10 years ago).
