theoretically the kind of player England have been lacking but you of course worry about his size at the senior level

at least carsley is already making some big (or in this case, small) decisions

I think he's grown a few inches since he's left - he's about 5'6/5'7 now.

I thought he had a bad injury recently, I'm guessing he's ok then?

Carsley was the England u21s manager right? I'm guessing he must know Gomes well.

He's a midfielder I believe.

I was surprised Southgate hadn't at least taken a look him in a friendly or two prior to the Euro's, especially as that type of central midfield player was one we lacked.

I don't believe he's any shorter these days than the likes of Modric, Scholes, Messi etc... So I don't see that his height would hold him back. He's been more than holding his own in Ligue 1 in central midfield after all.

Would be amazing to have him back at United - he's essentially a more experienced version of Mainoo.

This is weird! I was literally thinking about him this morning and wondering how his career was going. I didn't expect that he would be selected for the England squad though.

It’s a good signal that technical quality is being valued in central midfield, Connor Gallagher aside. Hopefully he’ll be binned soon for a footballer. Should have been Wharton instead of him.
