I think when Solanke gets fit, we’ll be really good.

With Son on the left, who is always dangerous and 99% of the time beats his man and puts in quality balls.

Then we’ve got BJ and Odobert right - these two have got massive potential as they are tricky, quick and are able to put in accurate crosses.

In the middle, Bissouma has had a tremendous start to the season - scoring a wonder goal! He’s really bossing midfield and dictating play.

Same with Sarr - probably one of the best young midfielder in the country at the moment. Assists and again dominating midfield. He shows maturity in his positioning and helps with our solidity with his running/tracking back. He’s really really good at running.

Maddison is being played perfectly with space to work his magic.

Don’t even need to talk about the back 5 as Vicario is 10 times what Raya would’ve been for us and the CBs are world class. Udogie best LB in the league for me and Porro is outstanding.

I really, really wish I could believe you.

Not saying I want Poch back BUT..... was thinking about this team other day & couldn't help thinking about those early years under Poch when the team was young hungry and clearly moving in the right direction, playing great football

GK.... Both Hugo & Vic in their prime
FB.... Walker and Rose.... PP & Udogie.... young, athletic, great attacking threat all provide great assists from wide areas.
CBs... Jan, Toby, Cuti, VDV... all great individuals all prone to the odd mistake but all would get into any PL squad in their Pomp
CM.... Biss & Dembele.. both good on the ball both capable of getting the team ticking
CM..... Sarr, Bergvall, Gray... all young, talented.... If you're good enough... age doesn't matter under the right manager that trusts them
No 10..... Eriksen/ Madders.... similarities speak for themselves
CF.... Not suggesting Solanke is the next Kane But scores goals, hold the ball up well, Big, Physical
SON.... Still Son, despite a few more years in the legs
OTHERS..... Dele, Kulu, Talented enough to basically play anywhere in the final 3rd, both provide a goal threat

Just seems to me we have a ton of talent, just need a system that plays to our strengths.... I can't helping that Ange is trying to hard to mould too many players to his style.... I think Poch found the right balance of a formula that worked with what he had at his disposal.. would just like Ange to try something similar

This is a good comparison.

What is a telling stat though is that in Poch' best year (16/17) we conceded 26 goals. That has only been bettered in one season since, when City & LFC had that 98 & 97 points, conceding 23 and 22 respectively.

Poch's 'direction of travel' in terms of defence went from 53 conceded year 1, 35 year 2, 26 year 3. Goals scored went from 58, to 69 to 86.

It was all slightly worse in his last 2 season but not by much. goals against still less than 1 per game.

All the stats make it very easy to plot the progress under Poch and that progress did see us genuinely competing at the highest level. While season 2 saw us close to the title it really was a bit of a false situation as so many other teams had poor seasons and Leicester took the title with 81 points. That would have got 4th last season.

Ange needs to show the same progression and then we can feel confident that we are substantively moving in the right direction, in the same way as Poch did, even if this means we arent competing at the very top quite yet.

Goals against needs to be in the mid/low 40s at worst. Villa made 4th with as poor a defensive record as us last season. Ours & Villa's GDs were in the teens. This really needs to be in the 30s if we are truly to be moving in the right direction towards the top.

Poch's second year we got 70 points.

My expectation is that we better that in Ange's 2nd year. Low to mid 70s as a minimum for me. That will put us in the mix for 4th and probably 3rd and represent genuine progress.
