Somewhat related the shirt prices. Interestingly, this article quotes somebody by the name Culer

There is a different way to do all this though. I’ve just started taking my 6 year old and the only games I can get him to are the less glamorous games, so this year it will be home games against: Everton, Brentford, Ipswich, Fulham, Southampton, Wolves, Forest, Bournemouth, Palace, Leicester. - these are the cheapest games and the easiest to get tickets for. In addition they are the games were most likely to win and score the most goals in - (except Wolves where we always get a schitty result). My lad loves this, he goes to games where we’re big favourites and sees loads of goals and I can do it for about £85 for the both of us rather than £130 for say West Ham at home.
Additionally - if you know where to shop you can get the latest kids kits in full for £14 and the difference between that and the real thing is imperceptible as they are often made in the exact same factory.
One other anecdote - Spurs have 1 game on TNT sports in September - Qarabag at home. It would cost me £30.99 to stream TNT for 1 month - whereas a ticket to Qarabag at home costs £30. So it’s cheaper for me to go to that game.
Again though, I know of people who get dodgy sticks for £40 a year and watch any game they like on their TVs
I'm not sure ticket prices, in England, are so wildly out of kilter with other entertainment options. We go, as a family, to the theatre regularly. Cost of a ticket at the Alhambra in Bradford can vary from £45-£90+ depending on the show and that's with membership discounts - for 3 hours entertainment. No idea what the west end costs in London, but i'd imagine more for shows.
I'm not trying to justify the costs, just that I think they're comparable. I went to see ELO (fantastic by the way!) and for those 3 hours it cost £250+, in Leeds a few years ago.
Save money on shirts by not rushing to buy them immediately. I bought all 3 Leeds (home/away/3rd) shirts in March this year for the equivalent of what would have been roughly 1 in August/September.
Makes me laugh at the footy when the chant about Sky rings out. Suspect that 75% of those complaining continue to subscribe to watch footy using that channel. Keep paying, they'll retain the power.

What frustrates me is that a portion of these fans who complain about prices in football are fans who expect to be able to go to every game - it’s not the one off cost, it’s the overall cost to go to every game.
Go to less, give someone else a chance. If the club suddenly has loads more empty seats because the demand isn’t there at those prices then guess what, the costs will come down.
There is definitely a selfish part of society in football who expect to be able to go to every game, but want to be paying the same price they were paying 10 years ago.
It never used to be the way, if I couldn’t afford to go - which happened loads in my 20’s, then I didn’t go, someone else went instead and I waited until I could afford to go again, usually by saving up and going to 8 games that season instead of 10. Why should we be keeping prices low so the same old crowd get to go every single week and not give anyone else a look in

Agree totally.
I've been fortunate for last 20 or so years, i don't have to fund a family to attend Elland Road, just me meeting up with friends each time - so i do have some sympathy with parents who want to go with kids. With travel and everything else, it's incredibly expensive, so i'm not unsympathetic. But there were years, for a variety of reasons when i couldn't go, either due to cost or logistics. That said we shouldn't make footy too prohibitive to families, otherwise you risk the pipeline of future fans.
But then when we take our family (kids and grandkids) to the theatre - Lion King with tickets/refreshments/merchandise cost us over £700 a while back and that's in Bradford. I'd have to do a re-mortgage to visit the West End. Great show, family loved it, but it's a once a year sort of outing.
Lets be honest, this country for most regular people is expensive, it just is.

Absolutely, but these things we’re talking about are treats, they aren’t necessities.
My boys class has a fair few Tottenham in it and most haven’t been to a game - I remind him of that and tell him he has to be bloody good for me to take him.
My pet peeve is the fan that’s been going for 20 years to every game and then means it’s getting too expensive - go less, why do you have to go to every single game. It’s great you are loyal, I get that, but go to 17 home games instead of 19 that season and it will cost you the same - it’s not a basic cost of living. Those 2 games you miss a new younger fan may go and form a lifelong bond that helps the club further down the line

Yes indeed and herein lies the root of the problem (not that there’s a solution available - that boat sailed a very long time ago).
any club trying to claim that EPL teams need to charge these prices for tickets cos they need the revenue is laughable. that league blows every other league in the world out the water with the finances clubs are given.
If Bayern can afford to pay their high wages with ticket prices for some fans at 19 euros for CL games then it shouldnt be difficult for EPL to avoid charging mor than 5 times that.

Not sure anyone is on this thread. I think you're right (seen your comments on other thread).
It's greed and market prices because they know, by and large, fans will pay.
Unless collectively fans decide to vote with feet and Sky subscriptions, then the status quo will continue.

agreed, clubs will most likely ignore the fans... or in Strikes case there are fans that agree with the increase and OTT prices.
It would have to come from authorities I fell in England and I dont know how much power they would have to implement that

There's the issue of intra-league competition to consider too, though.
PL clubs compete against each other on signings and wages, and every new season brings increased spending that can only be met by constantly increasing income.
The latest figures put match day receipts at roughly 15% of total PL revenue. It might not be the lion's share, but it's still a considerable amount.
And stadiums are continuing to fill up, and as long as that keeps happening, then the clubs have no incentive at all to freeze or lower prices.

This goes over Who’s head. He looks at Scotland and thinks well Celtic and Rangers can do it for a bag of crisps and a jammy donut so why not the Premier league.
Of course, you ask why Motherwell have never played CL and how much they would have to spend to get there and his argument falls down. If Motherwell did spend that money would Celtic/Rangers lie down and accept it or would they increase spending to compete?
The Bayern example is laughable - Bayern can outspend everyone in Germany already so don’t can sell tickets at 10 euros. What about Mainz though - how much would they have to spend to be CL regs?

But if they put their tickets up, spent a bit more as a result then they might be more successful.
It’s a double edged sword - Villa went from a Championship club to a CL club in about 5 seasons, they have had to spend crazy money to do that and now need to comply with PSR. They have 2 choices - raise commercial revenues or trade away players in the hope that the cheaper players coming in can fill the void - they ended up doing a bit of both.
Without that spending they probably finish between 8-15th.
Newcastle exactly the same, they’ve just had a summer where they bought nobody of note - if they miss out again this year it’s going to cause big issues for them because the only way they can compete for those spots again is by potentially overspending.
The Prem at best has 5 CL spots, but these days you have 8 clubs properly competing for those spots and West Ham’s spending this summer suggests to me they want to join that party also and you have Brighton attempting it via the player data route

what your describing is literally clubs spending outwith their means and as a result need to increase the prices!
and in turn surely thats far worse certainly ethically than what Man City have been accused of. Surely owners pumping in more money into the club is far more ethical than extorting the fans to pay for it ?!
You have to feel for the people with average wages and kids that want to go but can't!..
Prices will continue to go up, the people with money will pay as there'll be enough out there that want the tickets but won't get them because there ain't enough to be had!..
Those people you shouldn't think about because if they wait they'll get, the same as football isn't going to think about the small bod and his kids that some will be giving a fortune out on clubs kits and other merchandise to keep them same kids happy!..

----------------------------------------------------------------------
what your describing is literally clubs spending outwith their means and as a result need to increase the prices!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s that or finishing 10th
On the one hand Villa fans were desperate for CL, well this is the price of it
Would Villa fans prefer not having the option of paying for CL football - my guess is no, as they can do one CL game rather than all 4 home games
Everybody has to pay the piper though

and in turn surely thats far worse certainly ethically than what Man City have been accused of. Surely owners pumping in more money into the club is far more ethical than extorting the fans to pay for it ?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I had no issue with City putting money in to do what they did, the issue is they have allegedly broken the rules - whether the rules are fit for purpose I grant is debatable, but it’s a completely different argument.
Villa have complied with the rules but to sustain their position need to charge more.
And here is the kicker - if the Villa fans think the price is too high they don’t have to pay it - but they will because otherwise someone else will

Those 2 games you miss a new younger fan may go and form a lifelong bond that helps the club further down the line

any club trying to claim that EPL teams need to charge these prices for tickets cos they need the revenue is laughable. that league blows every other league in the world out the water with the finances clubs are given.

Prices will continue to go up, the people with money will pay as there'll be enough out there that want the tickets but won't get them because there ain't enough to be had!..
Those people you shouldn't think about because if they wait they'll get, the same as football isn't going to think about the small bod and his kids that some will be giving a fortune out on clubs kits and other merchandise to keep them same kids happy!..

any club trying to claim that EPL teams need to charge these prices for tickets cos they need the revenue is laughable. that league blows every other league in the world out the water with the finances clubs are given.
If Bayern can afford to pay their high wages with ticket prices for some fans at 19 euros for CL games then it shouldnt be difficult for EPL to avoid charging mor than 5 times that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's the issue of intra-league competition to consider too, though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This goes over Who’s head.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dortmund are cheaper, Leverkusen are cheaper, Leipzig are all cheaper than Bayern. the reason I chose Bayern is cos they are one of the most expensive !
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But if they put their tickets up, spent a bit more as a result then they might be more successful.
