You're right, Neon, Malinga's is just about ok; but, Lazy, he's not express unlike the other 3 you mentioned.

There is something odd about Finn and the pace he generates.
Whilst his run-up is fairly rhythmical he doesn't appear to have an "explosion" in his delivery stride (Simon Jones) nor athletic run-up a la Lee or even Akhtar whereby he can reach top speed at delivery.
Also unlike Tait he doesn't appear to put a huge amount of effort through his body when bowling.

Sure he's bulked up considerably, but muscle alone can't answer all that.
So, honestly I'm not sure where the pace has come from.
Perhaps he's just taken a leaf out of Holding's manual re: bowling quick and just tries to run in as hard as he can whilst bowling smoothly.

Anyway, if he can repeat the 93mph+ antics vs India this summer then surely you'd have him as express?

My action is very similiar to Brett Lee's and I chuck a bit. It is easier to bowl with a bit of a chuck, but it doesn't aid in pace.

I start off bowling with a straight air and then when I start to tire a bit of a chuck creeps in the action. Mind you, I am probablly still under the 15 degrees at its worst. I have never been called.

I added 5 mph to my top speed by doing gym work, which I never did before. That in turn added more pace to my stock balls as well.

Extra muscle/stamina can generate a decent amount of pace, but it needs to be marries to a decent action. Mine was described as 'slippery', but I did get chest on on delivery, which helped me eek a few extra % out of my action.

In test cricket terms only Lee and Akthar can be termed express pace. Tait could not handle the long format and could not bowl 90MPH consistently and Malinga hardly went over 90 in test cricket.

I you use a super slow mo on most fast bowlers their action does look suspect but when watching with the naked eye it is a smooth action.
