The most annoying thing about Nev and his commentary is that “Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” thing he does

Yeah the classic one being in the Chelsea - Barca semi final when he sounded like he was having an orgassm

You really don't know how the media works do you?

The post says - Source: DailyMail

You want to go ahead and provide provenance for this claim that the PL clubs have done this then go for it.

Until then I will continuing to be discerning in how much salt I add to stuff posted or printed by the media.

No, that's not my point. The media have put it out there now. The BBC had an article about arsenal's use of the "dark arts" yesterday. Regardless of any of their claims being true, enough people will read it and believe it.

Can't remember the last time I agreed with you, but this one's spot on.

He was absolutely pathetic. He was doing his utmost best to try and come across like Fergie, but he had nothing to back it up with. So totally cringeworthy.

Arteta is a poundshop Mourinho now. Low blocking his way in the big games, totally abandoning his mentor Pep's principles.

Neville is a little rat. Not sure if it was him or Roy H who thought it would a good idea to put England's greatest on corners in the WC 😂

More generally speaking, a lot of fans just don't seem to engage their own brains when they watch footy, and lean way too much on whatever ideas or opinions the commentary teams plant in their brains.

The thing is that very often a lot of these ex-footballers who might be good communicators aren't really great students of the game, and often get stuck in whatever clichés and truisms applied in their own playing days.

Most of those who really enjoy studying the game and are actually good at it are in managerial jobs, and that's where Neville would be if he'd been good enough. He isn't, so he's had to settle for being the voice of bloke in the pub.

But what difference does that make. its what the officials think that counts and going by what has been happening, they seem to have no problem with your physical blocking approach at corners, but are clamping down on time wasting by adding extra minutes and booking for preventing restarts.

There is nothing really wrong with dark arts and most successful teams employ them. But by their very nature they are on the margins of fair play so sometimes it will back fire.

If you consider the Trossard yellow, had Arsenal not been wasting time since almost the start of the game, it may have been viewed slightly differently. But seeing as you seem to systematically kill time in these big games any leniency may go out of the window.

I dont think PGMOL need to be lobbied to appreciate how Arsenal approach some games and it was the same for NUFC last season. Picked up loads for their constant, minor but continual time wasting.

I like Neville. I think he talks a lot of sense from football to politics. Think he gets a raw deal from fans in part because he's opinionated without having any real flair as a player which is an unpopular combination because he constantly faces accusations that he couldn't do the things he's criticising others for. That's harsh. He was a winner and most of his criticisms of teams, a bit like Keane, are centred around leadership and character, of which both had in abundance.

The Overlap and Stick To Football are brilliant and that's all down to him.

On your keeper debate, part of the problem now is that we're seeing more zonal marking which is removing the space to allow keepers to be commanding. In order to leap ahead of everyone else a keeper needs space to first run a few paces to then jump. There is no space to do that when his own defenders and opposition players so densely pack the six yard box. Where are they supposed to find a yard?

Zonal marking is a joke anyway because there's always a grey area between zones, not to mention the momentum the attacker gains in running into the space first. All the time you're no longer allowed blockers, zonal marking is redundant. If goalkeepers are being exposed, it's because teams set up that way. It's just plain stupid.

Saying that, Vic shows uncertainty at the back even when there's no cross to defend.

100% correct. I’ve been to loads of games and when I read the comments on here or other sites after, the talk will be about a certain player having a great/dismal game because that’s what a pundit has conditioned them to say even though I’ve seen it with my own eyes an hour before

Neville likes to pick a narrative 5 minute into a match and stick with it

he's still comfortably one of the better pundits but by his own admission he is far less insightful than he was at first

Because, as you've said, everybody does it. But the media (starting with Gary Neville) are running away with the idea arsenal are the only ones to do it. That was the initial bone of contention. Do you think this doesn't influence the refs?

There are examples this season alone when players should have been given a 2nd yellow for kicking the ball away. They weren't given. We've already been handicapped for it twice.

TBF Arsenal have hit the headline because they have 2 idiots on a booking who then kick the ball away.

Plenty of other players have been booked for this this season, just no others who were stupid enough to do it on a booking.

And you did it in high profile moments, Rice out of the NLD and Trossard vs City.

Try this....don't waste excessive amounts of time and delay restarts and see what the narrative is then! Currently its a situation of your own making, and you are then surprised that the media pick up on it and make it in to some massive thing.

Why are you going like we are the only team to do this?
Sunday was extreme because it was extreme circumstances but don't act like we do this every week against all opposition, you know that's bs...it's clearly being highlighted more with Arsenal for some reason though....like Ben W last year on corners was highlighted...but not a peep about Kyle Walker poking Gab before he scored...

Devon, in my previous comment, I told you other players have kicked the ball away while already on a yellow and not been sent off.

You then said stop time wasting and you won't be punished. While previously admitting everybody does it.

The whole argument just completely stinks.

Very weird comment, absolutely no Arsenal player, never mind Gabriel, made anything of it. Gabriel has answered questions about it since and said it was nothing and didn't even remember it happening.
