Very strange RE Richarlison. This is why we needed to have sold him but he wanted to stay. Frustrating

BISS, I didn`t mind him staying, he can be a bit of a handful when he is on his game. But he isn`t much use if he is constantly not available. So agree he maybe should have been moved on, when he still had some value.

Nice win, stufing those deluded mancs and non mancs, wh support Yanited.

They were all very confident and predicting a win for Utd.

Ange is barely in his second year and yet his stuffed ETH mega expensive outfit. They need to spend another £3bn I think

I think their players are still out trying to catch Mickey VdV

I must admit, I did not think Ange was the way forward, he still may not be. But that was more in annoyance at only getting 1 point out of Leicester, Newcastle and Arsenal. Three games Spurs dominated, and was tragic they didn`t win any of them.

I will hold my hand up and say I was wrong. He seems to have got the whole squad purring, even players I never really rated.

Ange seems the perfect type of managers to me for us. A father figure with a hug when needed but with venom is things turn sour! Players seem to respond well to him.
Tbh, we have cut costs on certain positions, and that's not Ange fault but Levy. Like Werner, just £15m but struggles to score goals. Like Richy boy, always seems to be injured and unavailable.

I think Ange is doing quite well and to be fair to him, we should have got more points that we have.

Only 3 points off fourth after an indifferent run of results. Good win in the Europa.

Need to maintain the momentum until the dreaded international break.

Can't be ar#ed with international football.

Returned to training this last week apparently.

Would be good to have him for a least a bit of the Europa game.

Very impressive week.

Must admit I was joining the gloom crew during that Coventry game.

Big improvements since then. When we are on it we're excellent but still very inconsistent.

If we can beat Brighton then it's a pretty decent start considering the tough fixture list.

For me, this is what we have been working towards.

I know United contributed to our fantastic performance, but it all came together yesterday.

We have seen some good attacking play, we have seen some decent defensive performances, and always lots of possession and control. Yesterday it all came together and we even defended their set pieces well (helped by Mr Hit the 1st Man Eriksen).

Constructive criticism would be that we had that spell (and its not the first) where we lost our composure a bit and started playing silly balls out of defence and gave it away, inviting pressure. Not quite 20 minutes as the OP say but a good 10 minutes where we conceded possession and chances and their crowd rallied. We need to not allow that to happen in future. It could have easily led to a goal and then all of a sudden a woeful Utd start believing and we start panicking.

We also need to make the most of our dominance. 10 men helped us but if it were 11 v 11 then the second half, @ 1-0 could have been very different. Werner, of course. Son would have scored that one. But its not all on Werner. More ruthlessness needed

Massive confidence giving victory. Really endorsing our approach. Taking it to Utd on their own patch. Really thought they may come at us but they backed off and looked to counter.

For me this is what Angeball is all about, and this sort of thing was more evident at the start of last season....being so offensively dangerous and aggressive that teams become scared to have a go at us and their chances to break on us become less and less quality. Thought we stopped counters at source much better yesterday. More aggressive, more niggly little fouls to break it up.

Keeping it up will be the challenge as a season grinds on.

Been a great week for the club?

-------------------------

I assumed the Spurs fans would be fuming today?, with Arsenal winning at weekend?... I thought spurs results don't count unless Arsenal lose?

or have I got that wrong?

Watched your game yesterday and Werner was appalling. Ange signed Maeda for us and he plays the Werner role - speed merchant, amazing engine, prepared to track back and press all day, fans in awe but has nada composure, control or finesse and has fans but TBH I think he's better than Werner and we got him for £2m.

Werner hasnt even cost us that.

He's third choice to be fair, and just as well we have him because with Son & Odobert out he's needed.

I am sure we will see a replacement LW being a top priority next summer

Maybe, but Ange loves that energy & recovery pace leading from the front and setting the tone for what comes behind - I kind of get it but frustrating to watch - the pace he was going and Onana came out so far he could easy have taken it round him but probably then run it out

I think part of what was important about that win was the routine nature of it. We were home and dry after about 60 mins which meant we could rest players and sub them off. Under normal circumstances, we’d be battling until the end, keep our best players on and risk fatigue-based injuries. We need more of those.

A side note on Ange, I’ve never wanted him out but I did, and still do, have some concerns about the way we defend but one of the good things about him is that he doesn’t take training himself. By maintaining some distance, he avoids the pitfalls of getting too tight with a specific group, making them undroppable based on an emotional connection. His management style gives him a greater longevity than the likes of Poch, whose closeness with certain players probably hindered our ability to evolve. The likes of Ferguson, Shankly, Busby etc all kept some distance from the players which gave them a unique ability to maintain control and discipline. Too friendly and you could get exploited. Not always, as Klopp will prove, but it gives Ange a chance to be successful long term.

Just a couple of weeks ago you said this about Ange's training methods

What's interesting is that there's a belief in managers like Ange that see it as some sort of betrayal of principles to tweak things tactically in order to get a result. It's still possible to have your preferred philosophy but maybe change the profile of that philosophy on occasion to deal with any shortfalls you might have with your squad.

Seriously, if he only has one way of playing and the players at this stage know his methods inside-out, what the hell is he doing between Monday and Friday each week? Is he just the guy that lets his coaches do the work and he only really says something inspirational on matchdays? He needs to be solving the issues we're having, not blindly hoping the players eventually 'get it'. The fact he never changes formation, rarely changes the first 11 means he's not willing to even listen to the criticism, which I think is madness. Listening to criticism is how you learn.

Not particularly Ted. The team are playing well. Manager just needs to have a Plan B in certain matches.

Have you changed your tune on the team? Only you have been slagging them off for a while now!!! Wot you got to stay about that?

Not defending in the opposition's half against better opposition. Pretty simple really. Hopefully Ange will realise that the high line only really works against poor opposition.
