Frustrating Ampadu. He was flying into tackles all pre-season. Spoke about it on here at the time how if he continues will pick up a yellow every game. Didnt really consider the risk of injury but when you look back at Dallas the club already had a warning. Yes, players need to tackle but there has to be a risk/reward decision when you are flying into them at such velocity. We all love a good tackle and it can lift the crowd but 1 or 2 this season have been high risk / low reward and this is a the result.

It looked like ligament damage immediately on the
pitch. Huge blow to us. I too was hoping to see Amps
alongside Tanaka at some point. We have to wait now.

Injuries are the one thing that will scupper us.

… and there we have it … as I’ve just said on the thread below this one, it’s far too early to be making any predictions about where we’ll end up this season. Here’s hoping (1) Ampadu makes a full recovery (2) we manage to find a way to effectively cover for him and (3) we don’t get anymore (too many more) serious injuries.

Serious blow this. He is cover for CB as well as captain and defensive midfield. As others have said midfield is covered but we are very thin in CB options. I can see us having to put Firpo in as left CB if Struijk gets injured.

I think Farke said he sees Debayo as an option at cb

Only appearance was against Boro in the cup, looked miles off it…but so did the rest that night. Whether it was being booed or that he still expected to go out on loan to Germany again, he looked like he wasn’t bothered.

He was so far up the pitch, a tackle he needed to make?
You could argue as captain he was setting an example, you could argue that it was bordering on the irresponsible especially as it places the whole rest of the squad on the brink.

Our first team remains fairly solid but there isn't much below that, Darlow, Cairns, Byram, Debayo, Rothwell, Crew, Piroe, Gelhardt, Bamford.

Can we not call Gyabi back?

If Debayo is the answer we might be effed.

Ampadu is a midfielder who turned into a very reliable
CB, maybe we can try it with Rothwell if we get desperate.

Wasn't my point. Im simply pointing out thats what Farke said. He must see something in him 🤷

Ive watched him live, quite a few times, big lad, good on the ball.

But completely different game is the champ, Risky.

Think Byram might be brought in centrally

Agree about Byram I asked about Debayo and was told decent but cant head it which doesnt bode well in the champ likewise in midfiled Crew is good at the nice things and not so good at the nitty gritty stuff and Spencer might be a better bet though still a gamble.
Theres no doubt abut it we are going to need some luck with injuries from now till christmas but as Lena Martell sang in 1979 its One Game at a Time Sweet Jesus

Would be amazed if Rothwell is used as a cb. I mean there’s no chance surely. Nothing about his game makes me think he could play cb.

Schmidt might make more sense than Rothwell at CB

Schmidt is apparently out with a small niggle. Firpo, Schmidt and Debayo will all play CB ahead of Rothwell.
