Not long finished the AI book The Coming Wave. There is a huge concern about at home viral engineering assisted by AI. People are very concerned about Gain of Function viral engineering to create something like an airborne Aids virus.

Particularly now that you can order lab made DNA sequences

Bird Flu seems to be the most likely next big one and after how a large swath of the human population behaved during the 2020 one do y’all reckon the same levels of discipline will be there?

Not sure you could enforce a lockdown or curfew on birds when they already live outside.

I'm sat in the corner rocking in the foetal position.

Our information systems have become even more anti-science since the pandemic. In 2020 paranoid conspiratorial thinking and disinformation started to cross-pollinate with nihilistic libertarianism that was basically hostile to the idea of common good. Now (with the States the most obvious example) you have swathes of national figures and elected officials actively spreading lies about public health that will result in people who believe them dying. The recent hurricanes in Florida are a grim example. The attention economy has a radicalising effect, whereby you need to be more outrageous / more radical / more frightening to get reactions, which seems like a deadly dynamic in terms of democracy and discourse as well as our ability to respond public health threats.

After we all seemingly survived the pandemic of 2020

------------------------------------------------

I know you meant as a species and you didn't mean any harm by it, Robb, but I'd like to recognise that the collective scars of the Covid pandemic are still pretty deep. It was a trauma that to some extent fuels where we are today. So as for "all surviving" it, my dad, for instance, didn't.

My apologies. You’re right, I did mean as a species but the wording was off. Sorry for your loss.

I had a few friends who lost parents to Covid during the pandemic and it made me really angry seeing others locally, and vocally on Facebook groups etc, calling it a scamdemic. It most certainly was not.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's parents but there is now lots of evidence to suggest it was a scam. Not saying Covid didn't exist but it was massively blown out of proportion.

You had PMs partying whist telling everyone to stay at home/social distance.

You had the health secretary himself breaking the rules he had set.

You had a covid test that was not fit for purpose.

You had a death toll based on bad science.

The flu disapeared.

You had the goverment billions of pounds in PPE contracts to their mates who had no experience.

You had people flying into the country whist we were locked down.

The vaccines were promoted as being able to stop transmission but never did that.

The average age of people dying was something like 83

You now have studies coming out showing that unexplained deaths have increased since the roll out of the vaccines (correlation is not causation but more primitive science was used to explain the covid death toll).

Don't even get me started on the vaccine deaths and injuries.

1 in 10 people in Europe are immune to HIV due to a very distant relative having survived the plague during the Black Death period 🤯
======
It's more resistance than immunity.

Nothing to write home about anyway as the global average for immunity to HIV is just slightly less than 10%

Here we go, another loon.

With the sheer amount of vaccines dished out, there will inevitably be a small amount of unexplained side effects. The numbers may seem big but its a miniscule percentage.

Have you read the small print on Paracetamol? You'd never take it if you did, We do of course, because the risk is vey low.

As for all the other "unexplained" stuff peddled by You Tube doctors:

The laziest generation in history that was brought up on microwave dinners, fast food and zero exercise, starts getting cancers and heart attacks. Definitely the vaccine.

A football supporter who is coked of his head most days has a heart attack. Definitely the vaccine.

It's all nonsense.

And here, ladies and gentlemen, we see the result of the catastrophic breakdown in our information systems. A litany of misinterpretations and demonstrable untruths, repeated (I have no doubt) in complete sincerity.

This whole thing was prior to the internet there would have been zero backlash against it, the vaccine, the whole thing, I will always trust those who have spent their rs entire working carrer over someone pontificating on the web, deaths by vaccine? Of course, there's never been one where there hasn't been, deaths by paracetamol exceed them yearly by thousands, of course people are free to believe what they want and I've no issue with that but the twisting of the facts are what irk me

Out come the personal insults and selective responses. You took the vaccine so now you have to justify it because you've committed.

Nobody has addressed my points. Not sure what paracetamol has to do with my point. Why don't you tell me about Ivermectin and vitamin D. You might learn something new

Brainwashed

Go on, tell us a bit more about Ivermectin.

Q. You had PMs partying whist telling everyone to stay at home/social distance. You had the health secretary himself breaking the rules he had set.
A. So what? Politicians are corrupt. We know that. Nobody ever said everyone who got Covid would die. It's not rabies. These charlatans were happy to let the rest of us do the work of staying at home etc while they had fun. Simplistic in the extreme to think this undermines the pandemic itself.

Q. The flu disappeared.
A. A lot has been written about this. The unprecedented measures taken to slow the spread of Covid had a dramatic effect on flu. I believe one strain was permanently eradicated and this period showed us that, if we really, really wanted to, we could probably get rid of flu altogether. Covid was novel, with lower natural immunity, and was/is more infectious (higher natural R number). And yes, the measures taken almost certainly did slow the spread of Covid enormously.

Q. The average age of people dying was something like 83.
A. So what? Even if you're prepared to reduce people to a number, if these elderly folk are going to IC, then that's a bed and all the concomitant resources, human and otherwise, that are taken up. So anything that's putting the elderly in hospital at high rates is a threat to everyone who relies on the NHS. And, presumably, that means you.

Q. We had people flying into the country whist we were locked down.
A. Shock! Horror! Humans put the economy and "business as usual" before health and safety! Well, that's me convinced. The only explanation is a scam.

Q. You had the goverment billions of pounds in PPE contracts to their mates who had no experience.
A. See above about corrupt politicians. We know. This has nothing at all to do with the severity of the pandemic. Again, it's extraordinarily simplistic to think it does.

Q. You had a Covid test that was not fit for purpose.
A. Not sure what this is based on, and of course nothing is perfect. Speaking from my own and my family's experiences, if the positives I've seen were false, a truly incredible set of coincidences was at work.

Not sure if I missed any. I will say that messaging - especially about vaccines - was very, very poor throughout. Sometimes attempts to simplify things led to more confusion; sometimes it was probably just incompetence or dishonesty.

Unfortunately I think things like social media distort people's views on reality so they feel they need to be seen to be smart or interesting at the expense of logic and sometimes empathy. So these people latch on to mistruths or things they've misunderstood to try and feel like they've got something worth saying, then get deeper into the cult like nature of it.
