Come on England sing it with me.. 'Heil Tuchel!' Heil Tuchel!

German if we lose. Honorary Englishman if we win.

I have never seen a red balloon.

Luftballon as we have to call them now

I was hoping we'd get him to replace that Aussie clown.

Will England fans still sing "19 German bombers in the air " ?

Not concerned about his nationality but isn't his style of football usually pretty turgid? Bad choice if so.

posted on 16/10/24

Not really the best choice, not much thought gone into his appointment, sort of snap him up while he's available

Ir's going to make chanting 2 world wars and 1 world cup awkward.

We can still chant this when it starts going wrong for Tuchel in a year or 2.

Yeah it reminds me of Spurs during more recent appointments picking out of desperation just to try and get results more instantly. It's no wonder Spurs are the club equivalent of England.

The thing is we were rubbish under Hodgson and it ended horribly, and the FA still wanted to continue with an English manager. Now we've come off the back of a period of getting to 2 finals and generally doing well in tournaments and suddenly it's the 'win at all costs' foreign option? FA seem very clueless and confused.

Pick the best available man for the job - regardless of nationaility. Pep obviously decided he didn't want to come, also Klopp, so Tuchel was probably next on the list.

Style of play will be Southgate-esque though.

"regardless of nationality"

It's kind of a contradiction for international competition though saying this. I mean really what is the point if you can have who you like in the pivotal role of managing the team. What it should be is the best available manager from that country.

It's the England Football Team that should be English. Don't care who manages them, coaches them, makes them lunch etc

It should when the manager position is such an important role though. They're more important than any player, arguably.

May as well be another trophy for Germany if Tuchel wins something with us.

Think about it, can you imagine the amount of credit he'd get for us winning something with him? The first manager to win anything with England since 66 and it's a German. Sad really.

He'd deserve that credit if he actually won something. And I wouldn't give a toss about his nationality because we'd have won something.

It's like saying may as well be a trophy for Sweden if Sven had won something, etc, who cares really

The thing about it being like a trophy for Germany was just deliberate hyperbole but I still don't like the idea that a foreign manager would bring us it. Like Capello and Sven before him, you have to get used to it but I don't agree with it and I even feel that actually we're not that far off already with the players we have, so even a Potter or Howe would be adequate enough to do what Southgate could do and probably more.

That's fair enough. Personally I'm not bothered about the manager's nationality, that being said I'd have been happy with Potter / Howe.

I got called xenophobic for not liking this

So is it xenophobic to not allow a German player to play for England? What’s the difference??

I just feel in international competition it should be the best personnel for a country's team versus another's. I mean it makes sense doesn't it? Maybe if the tea lady or the kit man was German then fair enough. A coach is too big a position not to matter, at least to me.
