If it is true, which would be incredible if it was, (INEOS obvs had to find somthing to do during their sailing holiday in Barcelona)... if I was Ten Hag ..... I would walk.

I think the job he did at Barca is mad underrated

Anyone think it’s a good shout?

One thing that should be clear from years of JA606 is that the forum isn't equipped to answer questions of this type. We're better sticking to our core purpose of debating best slasher movies.

...that said, with any coach I think it's as much about whether they're a good fit with the club and the project as it is about the innate ability of the individual. Alignment of all parties around a particular footballing vision is essential. Is it a red flag that Xavi didn't prosper at Barcelona, which would seem to be the world's most perfectly aligned to him club? I don't know. Obviously, for all the club DNA, we can't necessarily say that there was beautiful synergy with what Joan Laporta wanted, or that the club president gave the coach the kind of support he deserved. Did he fall short of reasonable expectations? He won Barca's first league title in four years, having taken on a club in disarray, and coaching during a period in which they were selling players in order to re-register players, and operating those financial 'levers' to keep afloat. Hansi Flick seems to have quickly improved them since taking over - but is that because he's a better manager, or because he thrives in situations (see also the circumstances of his Bayern stint) where he parachutes in to stabilise things? He's also inherited some phenomenal young talent that's a year further along in its development.

On paper Xavi seems like he could be an incredible coach. A highly intelligent figure and sophisticated thinker about the game; apparently a great communicator; history as one of the finest midfielders of all time should reinforce his clout in the dressing room.

But the boring answer is that being a great fit with the game model that the United sporting hierarchy decide on (which none of us know) will be a prerequisite, and we have no idea whether the ideal man is Xavi, Alonso, Amorim, Zidane, or some hipster choice who looks like he hasn't started shaving yet.

Used to give interviews in English after every la Liga game.

He would be my preferred choice out of all the candidates that were put forward. Tuchel inclusive. Found it strange he wasn't even considered in the summer.

Still behind the incumbent though.

Ha ha... indeed. Yet it seems to have a good stab at answering the lesser questions of the day, such as The Middle East, Putin and Ukraine, Americam politics, etc etc. But when it comes to the big, important complicated issues like Man United Football matters....eveybody is pretty clueless.

It would continue our evolution and transformation of football as we know it, similar to what happened at Barca in the 90s and 00s/10s through Cruyff and Pep.

Ten Hag and his total football is the equivalent of Cruyff at Barca in the 90s. He has instilled his total football philosophy into the whole of the club. The youngsters coming through now all play this forward thinking way of playing.

Bringing in Xavi will be like when Pep came in at Barca. He continued the total football way by bringing through youngsters who all knew how to play that way due to Cruyff bringing it to the youth system years before.

With Xavi as manager and all of our Total Football graduates coming through, we could arguably be better than Barca of a decade before. We would be more sustainable as we wouldn't be so reliant on Messi, Iniesta and Xavi (apart from Xavi) like Barca were in order to be successful.

These are some of the most exciting times in football history, not just as a United fan but as football fans, what United are currently doing is changing football forever.

He’s past his best, but I suppose he’d still be an improvement on Bruno.

Manager. None of our players come close to having the football intelligence to play alongside Xavi.

Agreed, not the most exciting football they've ever played... But to be away from the nou camp and missing some of your best players, he did very well to win the league.

yeah but no one expects spurs to win anything.
We've won the second division a couple of years ago which is harder to win than your europa title under Mo
