Worst thing is that even a team that is supposed to be low on confidence can do this to us. The Palaces and teams at the bottom of this league were supposed to be the guaranteed 3 points.
Today's match was a battle of tactics.
Spurs current Aussie manager thinks that all out attack is the only way to play. Plan A.
Some fans like this because it makes for exiting football....until you lose, of course!
Other managers in the Prem have figured out that the way to play against Aussieglu is to sit back and defend against our high line and then boot the ball forward and run like hell with only Vicario in our half.
Today we gave away a goal by a defensive error by VDV.
But we nearly gave away more by the boot forward counter attack. In fact we were lucky that one such goal was marginally off-side. Also Vicario made 3 excellent saves, one with his legs.
Our attack faltered because Palace defended very well. And Maddison wa a little unlucky not to score. Kulushevksi and Johnson had a day off and did not play well. neither did Moore. Richarlison is far too slow to be a top class striker.
Funnily, Werner was one of our better players today when he got the ball and centered it well. Might have had an assist if any of our attackers could get on the end of his centers.
Bentancur, who showed signs of imagination, might have turned the game around, had he come on earlier.
Son was roundly missed.
All in all, a bad day at the office for a manager with no plan B.
This squad has good enough players to be doing as lot better than it is.
One thing that bothers me is how to explain why we leak goals from corners at the defensive end (in most games) but cannot score from corners at the attacking end.
Today I saw us play 2 or 3 corners by pushing the ball a few feet to a second player who then took the corner. What was that all about?
It certainly didn't help anything, and Henderson is a good keeper.
I honestly think this myth that we play attractive attacking football needs to be questioned. We may keep possession abit (sideways passing) but we don't really attack like we are made to believe.
I actually say we can be quite a boring wide to watch, with no real plan except the full backs pushing on into an inside forward type position.
We are great to watch alot of the time, we don't defend wrll and we don't really have any real quality in the side consistently in our attacking.
We are bang average. Let's be honest. Players and manager.
at the end of the day attractive football does need to be winning football as well
people especially neutrals just say we are good to watch because of the amount of chances we give up and how open we make the games
