Luke Shaw

I'm prepared to give Shaw some slack as he did suffer a horror injury nine years ago and he could easily have given up then.

If it's frustrating for us imagine what it's like for him.

If he did return though I wouldn't have him as LWB. He'd be a LCB option for me. I don't think he'd have the legs to be a wing back. He wouldn't need to move and sprint as much as LCB and he's shown he can be adept there.

Sending Fernandez to Benfica, who ironically is being watched by all the top clubs now apparently, was one of the biggest errors of the ETH era.

Buy back clause is apparently 15m Euros. Pay it.

He could've prevented all these injuries if he'd had Mourinho's brain.

Is he ever gonna play for us again?
----------------
Well yeah. You'll remember he got injured in February and was due back after the next international break in April.

Unfortunately, he had a set back and was then due back after the international tournament in the summer.

But unfortunately, he had a set back and was due back after the international break in September.

Unfortunately, he had another set back and was due back after the international break in October.

Unfortunately though, he's now had a set back - but I've heard he should be back after the international break in November and I see no reason to doubt that.

In all seriousness though, I said at this point that we won't actually see him until December, and that's looking like a great call

I’d love to see Shaw back as he can elevate any side, but the toll of a demanding career is clearly affecting his body. Releasing him, even on a free transfer, could be a wise move if it allows for a long term, more reliable replacement. I had high hopes for Amass as the natural successor after his promising pre-season, but he seems to have faded from the spotlight entirely, possibly because he's not quite ready for promotion.

If INEOS have any huevos they'd terminate his contract now. He is crooked and not worth the stress. Reach some kind of mutual agreement with him and end this nightmare for the player and the club already.

He's simply not a reliable option for us - even when fit, we need to manage his games accordingly. Long-term we need to find a replacement unless there's a complete turnaround with Malacia also

Apparently he's a LB we have, costing us a fortune in medical bills ...........although that could refer to both of them

It’s a shame as I feel a fit Shaw (oxymoron) would be a great option for a left wingback under AmoBall.

Shaw presumably likes playing football when he's fit. And likes being paid a massive wage. So what motivation would he have to cancel a lucrative contract to play football? And what leverage does the club have?

football fans constantly whinge about international breaks, but they seem to be the only thing keeping shaw alive

Depends who offers him a contract. He might take a pay cut if the Toon offer him one. Newcastle has more Greggs per capita than anyone else in the UK.

He's been a sicknote ever since that big injury against PSV under Van Gaal. That's a fck of a long time. Shame really, as he's a great LB and could've been a contender.

We need to move on, but it won't be this season. We're stuck in limbo for the next 7 months.

posted 3 weeks, 5 days ago

Shaw likely wouldn't even be a LWB under Amorim. He doesn't have the attacking verve and cuteness needed for that role.

He'd be much more suited as the LCB as he's faster than Martinez and better at defending in the wider areas.

In any case, we need to move on from players like this. It's ridiculous how many players we've had on the books who can't stay fit: Martial, Jones, Bailly, Shaw, Mount... I'm sure I'm missing one or two more.

They might feel that he's pasty's best though.

Shown himself to be a very good left back when he's fit. Think United need a new first choice LB and use him as back up when he's around until his contract is up because nobody with any sense would pay good money for him.

Malacia is even more of a sicknote and a lower standard of player, given his age he might be shiftable though so he's got to go.

The market for LB isn't very good though. Kerkez at Bournemouth or Fran Garcia at Real, look like the best achievable options.

Acknowledged.

I always miss Shaw's post-match interviews after every hammering in which he's barely broken sweat, as he looks really downcast and tells the world he's unhappy that "the performance was not acceptable" and that "we the players really need to look at ourselves and work harder".

The white Darren Anderton.

posted 3 weeks, 5 days ago

I’ve got to disagree with some of the above. He’s a good player when he plays.

Smart in defence, fast and I think his link up in attack is very good.

It is a shame that my concerns about him becoming the Second Coming of Wayne Bridge have come to pass.

Decent player but needs to be put out to pasture now.
