These questions are always difficult because coaches aren’t as idealistic as many think they are, and trying to map a different squad onto their old clubs is very difficult because of this.
I think Pep’s probably a good example of this, when you consider he’s considered the most idealistic coach there is but his teams have massively evolved since his Barca days. For example, a lot of people thought that Fernandinho, Walker, Sterling and Aguero would find themselves not fitting his ideals before he went to City. But they became key players for years.
I think there’s probably plenty of players in this United team that can similarly make themselves key players under Amorim, even if they don’t share the same styles as a number of his Sporting players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
All speculation at this point.

However he sets up his 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 or however he adapts this to suit our strengths, the spine of the team I think will include:
CB - Ugarte - Bruno - Hojlund
or
CB - Mainoo - Bruno - Hojlund

If you look at the central CBs Amorim has used (Coates, Diomande), they're big, strong, aerially dominant, fairly aggressive types. Not super mobile, but good readers of the game, with decent distribution and capable of joining the midfield during first phase build up play.
Slabhead or De Ligt would fit the profile. Martinez could also do the job (although I'd expect him to play LCB assuming Amorim sticks with a three).

I haven't seen Sporting enough tbh so appreciate the insight.
On the point of who, I agree about Lisandro at LCB, it's his natural position. I really have my doubts about De Ligt. I'd much rather Maguire and tbh they were a decent partnership in ETH's first season. With Yoro as RCB.
The only problem is this... reading the 2nd article RR put up, the central CB steps out leaving the wider CBs to cover at the back. I just can't see Maguire doing that role. Uness he adapts and has one of the other two going forward into midfield with Maguire +1 remaining?

Three cbs does suit Slabby as it gives him more freedom to attack the ball, which will be useful for defending long balls. But when he does go aggressively to the striker and gets skinned by Chris Wood, there’s still some cover behind him.

Maguire is better than most CBs at carrying the ball, but in terms of working triangles to get out, yeah, you'd expect Martinez to be more useful. It might be that Amorim tweaks things there.
When Sporting are playing out, they'd have Coates (the central CB) work with the CMs to progress the ball past the first line. But then he'd drop back in, and the other two, wider CBs would take it in turns to join the CMs in the second and particularly third phases of play, to help work and recycle the ball in the opposition half, and to counterpress where required.
So once we'd played out, you'd have Slabberz/De Ligt dropping back in to act basically as sweeper, whilst the RCB (could also be De Ligt) and Martinez as LCB pushed up to fill spaces left by the box to box players in the double pivot.

As an aside, is it conceivable that we envisaged bringing in Amorim or more generally a coach who plays three at the back in the summer when we bought 2 CBs, despite apparently having a lot of other squad gap priorities? On the other hand I guess Mazraoui & Zirkzee aren't really Amorim-ready buys, so this is bоllоcks.

That, especially the 2nd/3rd phase sounds workable
I do think we have enough versatility in our CBs, especially Lisandro and Yoro for Amorim to do what he wants. And despite Maguire's limitations I still think he's a decent defender and solid enough with a technically, more mobile CB next to him.

Can you imagine the conversations with ETH?
"Erik, we're bringing in two more CBs this summer, just in case you ever want to play three at the back."
"What? I only play with two. I need another left back."
"No, no, he... errrrr, I mean, you... won't be needing any more left backs."

Hopefully we sign someone that is capable of playing left back and wing back so that when he is sacked we can still use them in a back four.
I hope we’re interested in Robinson from Fulham. If Shaw isn’t completely dead it would also give us an opportunity to blood Hamas into the first team squad.
Essentially we’d have Martinez and Shaw for lcb, Martinez, Shaw, Hamas and Robinson for left back and Robinson, Shaw and Hamas for left wing back.

Robinson is a top player …reminds me of Robertson when Liverpool first got him
He would be a perfect left wing back
Think you guys are gonna spring now anyway ….ETH lost the dressing room ages ago
You have the squad to battle it out for top 5 (champs league hopefully) ….there are no stand outs after city, arsenal and Liverpool (I still think Liverpool could get found out a bit when their fixtures get tougher and the bounce wears off)

Sebastian Coates is basically the Uruguayan Slabberz, so yeah, it'd make sense.

Bet he hates Brazilian civilisation.

However he sets up his 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 or however he adapts this to suit our strengths, the spine of the team I think will include:
CB - Ugarte - Bruno - Hojlund
or
CB - Mainoo - Bruno - Hojlund
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I strongly agree that he will use a centre back
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's nice. It's the only position I wasn't sure who to include.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you look at the central CBs Amorim has used (Coates, Diomande), they're big, strong, aerially dominant, fairly aggressive types. Not super mobile, but good readers of the game, with decent distribution and capable of joining the midfield during first phase build up play.
Slabhead or De Ligt would fit the profile. Martinez could also do the job (although I'd expect him to play LCB assuming Amorim sticks with a three).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven't seen Sporting enough tbh so appreciate the insight.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maguire is better than most CBs at carrying the ball, but in terms of working triangles to get out, yeah, you'd expect Martinez to be more useful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That, especially the 2nd/3rd phase sounds workable

Essentially we’d have Martinez and Shaw for lcb, Martinez, Shaw, Hamas and Robinson for left back and Robinson, Shaw and Hamas for left wing back.

what i await is his decision making regarding "first team players who are not preforming.

This decides every manager that comes in. Sadly we have not had many of them with cojones.

Whilst I think Robinson is a fine player and wouldn't be against seeing him at the club, I imagine we'd have a harder time getting work permit clearance for Hamas.
