Quite an even game tbf a draw would have been the fair result imo. I felt Newcastle started well passing it around nicely and opened you up a few times but once they had the goal dropped off. Arsenal struggled to create much but had the better of the chances of the two after the well taken goal. The best chance fell to Rice with a back post header? It was a goal worthy of winning a game though, great cross and header.
Livramento was motm, outside of losing Rice for the header he he defended very well vs Martinelli.
Saturday game, so I could only listen to it. Adrian Clarke mentioned Saka being doubled and tripled up on most of the game by Hall, Willock and Joelinton. Wtf were Trossard and Martinelli up to then?
Sounded like Trossard dropped another solid 4/10 performance when starting and, if we’re to seriously challenge for honours, Martinelli needs to shape up pretty quickly, or be replaced next summer.
Provided Odegaard can stay fit and again be the creative, positive spark for us, Trossard should be used mainly in an impact substitute role. And if he’s not happy about it, role on the January transfer window, and an offer from the Saudi league.

They worked hard to cover Hall yh, Martinelli was pocketed by Livramento he had a few tries then gave up quite easily after losing a few battles. Trossard was quite poor yeah.
Thought willock was playing like a bit of a cant.
I get leaving one on your opponent, but it looked like he was genuinely trying to injure his fellow hale end graduates
Didn’t sound as though there were any contentious decisions, so at least the ref had a good game.
Which is nice.
The ref was as shiiiit as the Arsenal players. Even gave Newcastle a throw in when Livramento clearly kicked it out.
Draw probably would have been fair, but we were cräp and only have ourselves to blame for a defeat. Newcastle contained us well and they scored a good goal. But we really didn’t ask them much questions at all in attack, and we didnt/couldn’t change up our play at in response to going behind. We don’t have any outlet in attack, everyone is too deep and we get bogged down.
Also we were out fought in areas, losing duels and so on. We also didn’t seem to have the fight to go and beat them, which is a worry because that’s not something we’re use to with this team. No one other than saka seemed interested in taking responsibility to try and score.
Odegaard coming back will certainly make a difference, but we can’t keep playing like this, we need a different way of playing without him, especially as it’ll take a bit of time for him to get up to speed. I’d probably start Nwaneri is some games, get him doing his best odegaard impression and have the team play the system they did last season. Also white coming back to fitness should help saka out on the right, he looks too isolated without him.
Ref was fine DJ, can handle giving an incorrect throw in here and there it happens especially when players are calling for everything.
Personally thought the ref was pretty good and fair for both teams. Didnt get card happy and communicated to the players pretty well.
8 yellows in a game of not a lot isn't card happy?
Was very inconsistent with his decisions, leading to both sets of players getting frustrated with him.
I really hope 4-4-2 is binned forever. Arteta finished 8th playing this formation, and that's where we will return to if he continues.
Marti is frustrating. Just seems miles away from his form 2 seasons ago, has regressed massively. Livramento didnt break a sweat dealing with him and Marti gave up.
Too many players getting away with it at the moment.

Lack of cover for Odegaard and the need for a better striker are not new issues , both were discussed in many posts before the season started. Letting ESR move on is now looking like a stupid move as he could have stood in for Odegaard. Both Martinelli and Trossard’s performances this season have been very disappointing and the jury is still out on Stirling. Hopefully Odegaard will be back soon and we can start putting a string of results together otherwise I fear we will be out of the title race before Christmas.

----------------------------------------------------------------------We are already out of the title race mate.
Top 4 if we're lucky.
Jury is not out on Sterling in my opinion, wasn't good enough for a struggling Chelsea side so why would he be good enough for a team that was supposed to take the step-up from challengers to champions? There's a reason Liverpool, City and Chelsea fans can't stand him.

We really deserved nothing out of this game. Newcastle is a physical team and we lost every single battle on the field. As soon as Newcastle score an almost perfect goal we were done. No fight, no desire, no one to change our fortune around.
Tempo of the game over 90 min the same. We hardly create any chance and Newcastle were comfortable to bring the win over the line.
We really did nothing to prevent the defeat. It was a disappointing day which I thought we werent able.
Inter Milan and at the Bridge next weekend coming up. Some of our players are in a bad run of form. Martinelli, Trossard are woeful to watch at the moment. Merino average at best, Timber not used to the PL and arent able to go 90 min all three days. White is not match fit. Calafiori, Tomi, Zinny injury prone. Havertz doesnt know in which position he should play.
Saka has too much responsiblity to do the magic in every single game. Rice looks tired.
Same situation as last season at that time.
