Summer Signings rated...

Noussair Mazraoui £12.8m. He’s been excellent in a very, very poor United team. That price is very unlike us also.

Pound for pound, the worst transfer has to be Solanke. £55m down the drain. Yes he works hard all game, but he’s a striker and not a DM.

Mazraoui has been very good for us. A steal really at that price.

De Ligt has been steady nothing more.

Ugarte not played enough games yet but slowly
improving as each games by.

Zirkzee was a player I wrote off before he even kicked a ball. A stupid signing. It was obvious by every metric going he wasn't cut out for the PL and look what's happened. No idea who at the club thought he was the answer but they should be sacked immediately.

The only real defence I can put for Zirkzee is it was an already under-performing team with a manager who should have been sacked in the summer. Plus he was arguably rushed in due to Hojlunds injury rather than given a settling in period Ten Hag would have probably preferred.

But he looks a player not good enough for the PL.

De Ligt has been excellent in his last three outings, IMO.

He’s steadily looking better and better, and is a very obvious choice for the central CB role in Amorim’s system.

Fabian Carvalho is at Brentford DJ

Went from Fulham to Liverpool then to Brentford.

That is why it is hard to judge

Harsh to call Zirkzee a bad signing. If people thought he was bought to get us a handful of goals then they didn’t bother looking into what he’s actually like. He’s an intelligent forward moving to a side who are terrible offensively. He’s shown glimpses of his talent, nice touches and good movement, but without the support in attack he’s always likely to struggle.

He was bought relatively cheaply to give us options in attack and I think in time he could still provide that.

Mazraoui has been great, I was very sceptical mainly because of his injury record but if he can stay fit then he’s a fantastic purchase.

Judging after so few games is pretty pointless, especially those that have got off to a slow start.

So if I'm honest, I'm still not convinced by De Ligt, whereas I think Zirkzee might turn out ok, but just happy to wait and see for everyone in the squad.

I also actually think Solanke will turn out very well - he has had a relatively slow start, but work-rate is good, and overall he seems to be linking up well within the team. With a team like Spurs, he should get a good number of chances. Can see him improving greatly over the next few months.

Andre at Wolves. Very very highly regarded but can't even get a start for a terrible Wolves.

What league exactly is Zirkzee cut out for then? He scored two goals in his first season in Series A. Just one away from equaling that in his first season in the PL. Not everything is about how tough the PL is. Sometimes players are just crap.

Yeah the 'not cut out for the prem' line is a little outdated these days. Gone is the time the prem was just fast paced hustle and bustle.

When there is only one hardman, old school English player left in the PL and the other few hundred are foreigners and ball playing players, that one hardman crap player does not define the league as a hardman league.

Another great myth is the depthof English footy, our second tier is so much better than any other etc etc. But yet the only evidence we have had to gauge that has been the Anglo Italian cup which was for second tier teams. Winners were Italy 15 England 6.

No one has made a tough tackle in the PL in about 5 years. The myth that South Americans couldn't handle the hard tackling in the PL....have you SEEN South American football??

Most of the mediocre big team PL players sent on loan to the Scottish Premiership fail spectacularly. It's what you THINK the PL is. Far tougher and more physical.

posted on 12/11/24

Nah, better.

posted on 12/11/24

Scottish football is "tougher and more physical" cos not many of them are good at football.

Exactly. Which makes it better. See Stoke away logic.

The PL is good because of highly skilled foreign players and talented foreign managers.

It's like when an area of a city has a reputation as a rough area but it has been knocked down and expensive flats built.

None of the previous character remains but people perpetuate it as if it was still 20 years ago.

Well harsh on Solanke this …..he has 6 goals and 3 assists in 16 games

That’s not that bad in a new team …..especially as he had to get over an injury when he first signed

I think he is doing well and with a bit more luck would have a couple more goals too …..certainly no signing of the season but not sure he should be criticised either

Rating our (Chelsea) signings:

Jorgensen - £20m - that’s a lot of money for a back GK that can’t get ahead of Sanchez.

Tosin - Free - Decent squad player

Veiga - £12m - Solid squad player

Guiu - £5m - Wasting his time here. Should’ve went out on loan.

Neto - £55m - Great player, good signing as long as he doesn’t get injured again

KDH - £35m - The most pointless buy of the season. Can’t even make our bench. Should be sold or loaned next season.

Felix - £45m - Again a player that wasn’t needed. We were forced to buy him because of the the Gallagher deal. Plays in the same position as Palmer so is getting no PL minutes.

Sancho - Loan - Decent
