International breaks

I'll stand corrected but I read that Mark Robins' win rate for Coventry was 29%.

Lampard's in the last two years is 23%.......

Frank doesn't want to be sent to Coventry !

I have to say that I'm not remotely interested in international friendlies so I feel free to go off topic (sorry, Desi!) to ask a question which I'll have a go at answering myself and then pass on -

_what is it that defines the general perception of any given professional football club? Is it the owner; the manager; the stadium; the style of play; the supporters; the history; the city/town of its home base? All of these except probably the city/town and the stadium are subject to constant change, none more so than the manager and yet sometimes a certain perception remains ingrained or has done so for many years. Sometimes a perception is short-lived as memories can be selective but for more longstanding examples what about - Millwall, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Manchester City and Chelsea, Leicester, Man U all for different reasons (Millwall, its supporters; Leeds, the Revie era; SW, the shocking loss of life during the Liverpool/Forest game; Manchester City and Chelsea, the profligate spending, hoovering up of young talent and probably rule-breaking on an unprecedented scale; Leicester, the cynical ploy of going into administration when there was nothing strictly illegal about it; Man U for the Busby Babes. (DCFC are not exempt from negativity as lots of supporters of other clubs brand us as "toxic" because of the Morris era but this could well be short-lived.)

I suppose negative perceptions may dissipate over time and fresh examples will crop up but over to y'all for other examples, bad or good.

Well I don't go along with the fashionable disdain for international football. I get the feeling that some fans are uncomfortable with the jingoustic aspects of it but to me the inherent tribalism is only an extension of what motivates us to support our local club against our neighbours near or far. I'm very pleased Harry Kane has spoken up to say that playing for the national team is the peak of a player's career. Yes, the Nations Cup is a much lesser competition than the Euros or World Cup but then the same applies to the League Cup compared to the FA Cup or the league. I will be watching with interest.

In other news, Curtis Nelson has signed a new two-year deal.

I don't get excited about actual international friendlies and I think the Nations League has added a bit more competitive interest to what would otherwise have been 'normal' friendlies. I am taking an interest in the next 2 games to see if we can get promoted but I won't stay up to watch.

But when it comes to the actual World Cup and European Championships I want to see all the games and get hugely disappointed when we lose. Like Vidal I am pleased Sir Harry of Kane has spoken out as these drop outs are infuriating and it does seem like some players only want to play the 'nice' games.

Where it has become an issue for me is that I do not recognise any of the much younger players and have no connection with them as I do not watch Premier League or Champions League at all. So I miss a bit there but still want them to represent England and win something in my lifetime.

Although technically we did win the World Cup already in my lifetime but I was unable to appreciate it's significance at the time.

I think international breaks are a waste of time. I never watch these games as they're generally carp.
The only thing useful is that they give our players a rest..

Its football, its on telly, so I'll probably watch it.
Well, its between that & Masterchef

A competition that UEFA devised to fill its coffers even more! A pointless competition& not required. No doubt it's one of Arsene Wengers ideas.

About the same thoughts of the Nations Cup Terry

If it was all about what is or isn’t pointless we wouldn’t get out of bed in the morning. I quite enjoyed the game for what it was worth. Good to see Curtis Jones stake a bit of a claim. A better balance about the team. Something to ponder about whether we are better playing with direct wingers as we did last night or with the clever clever players like Foden, Palmer, Grealish etc.

I found some interest in it.

Festy starting for RoI 🇨🇮 v Eng

posted 1 hour, 34 minutes ago

Festy did pretty well. England’s third team strolled it in the end but Ireland’s tactics were working well until the sending off. Sensational pass by Kane changed the game.
