This war does feel like it's escalated in the last week. Read that one military chief has said that WW3 has already begun.

Out of morbid curiosity I found a website that calculates the destruction a nuke would unleash on any given area (I picked Cardiff), and being able to choose from the wide variety of nukes every nuke would wipe out Cardiff to the classic Tsar Bomba nuke wiping out pretty much all of South Wales.

Right now it seems like a frog in a slowly boiling pan of water, it's slowly heating up, but eventually the whole thing will spill over and if the nukes are unleashed it'll be a very quick world war 3. If nukes start flying it'll be a world war that ends in 24 hours.

It seems Putin is happy to escalate and escalate no matter how NATO responds. It's pathetic how he says it's all because of the west when he started this whole thing in 2008. Whether he'll push that big nuke button on Ukraine is another question. If he launches a nuke I think it'll be aimed at Ukrainian soil first, but if any one retaliates I think the UK would be the second target for him. Geographically and politically.

I think if a nuke was launched on Ukraine there would be no choice but full escalation from the west. MAD's then begins

The reason things are escalating is because both Ukraine and Russia are vying for the upper hand ahead of Trump arriving in January. If Russia have it then they’ll be in a strong position to propose a solution that works for them. Zelensky will lose his backing from the US and have no choice

That’s the way I see it ending. Putin knows launching a tactical nuke on Ukraine signals the start of the end of the world. He doesn’t want that. No one does.

Spot on mate. The whole war is basically...for me anyway...the weak leadership in the west cowering to Putin. In 2014 IF the west actually had some backbone and proper leadership the could have stopped putin taking Crimea, if that had of happened...I dont believe putin would ever have invaded Ukraine.

Putin is a bully, with bullies you front them up and punch them on the nose...if you dont? Guess what, they carry on bullying....exactly what putin IS doing. He wont stop, next places like Lithuania etc.....hes a bully...pinch him hard!!

Problem here is that nobody would know if Cardiff gets nuked

It is embarrassing how pathetic the Russian military might is. They would be unable to defeat a majority of countries through Europe. I reckon Poland should feckin invade them, they would reach Moscow without much trouble.

I think it suited the West fine for him to get mired in a Ukraine stalemate. They'd have known he didn't have the troops for an unassailable assault and outright win and him being bogged down in attrition means his attention is away from intelligence battles with the West and forging links with China who the US really do fear.

What brought the Eastern bloc to it's senses was the information age and realisation that it was being overtaken by SE Asia in technology and living standards. What will ultimately do it for Russians is the realisation that they are now at the level of China and N Korea. Or Putin will die. Or both. And the realisation they invaded a much smaller neighbour and couldn't win their intended prize.

All imho of course. I bow to those with greater insight.
