It's a sad state of affairs at Liverpool. Not only can they not attract top, world class talent from elsewhere anymore, they now cannot even attract their own players to sign for them. Salah clearly wants out and Liverpool are back to signing players like Lallana and Charlie Adam to replace their outgoing stars.
Getting lucky with Salah for so many years had to come to an end sometime. He is off for a new challenge and Liverpool are back to Danny Ings standards.

I personally dont think it's a FGS thing, we're at a stage in football where players have a lot of power and know if they are 'free agents' they get to choose their destiny/destination, rather than being forced into a situation by their club. ALL top players are doing it nowadays... i can understand why.

Only issue with that statement is that both Salah and VVD want to stay and both have said to their shock that we have not even been bothered to make an opening offer in an attempt to keep them.
We can only go on by what 2 of the players have said so far:
Salah - No offer has been made to him (twice)
VVD - Has said "see what happens in the summer" in other words no offer.
Player power is one thing but making no attempt to offer a contract is another. This is not like Robbo or Hendo previously who you could see the legs were going. Both are still 2 of the leagues best.

This is not how player contracts work, it's not Football Manager. FSG don't offer contracts to players, they pay people to do that but before contract offers there are negotiations, which seemingly started late for some reason and has been attributed to outgoing staff and waiting for incoming staff.
With sides of every negotiation want to strengthen their hand and agents will be in the ears of players telling them to put it out that they haven't been offered a deal, which whilst factually correct is misleading for those who don't understand how negotiations work, thus some fans will be up in arms, strengthening their hand.
All three seemingly want to stay and the club seemingly want them to stay so the other thing is left is to find a mutual agreement and just give him what he wants generally isn't how negotiations will work. Salah may want three years, the club may want two and may try to raise salary or bonuses to get the two, Salah may hold out for the three years and therefore negotiations will take longer of back and forward before a contract is offered. Same with Van Dijk. With TAA he may see it as his main contract in his career which will take him into his 30s and therefore salary may be a big thing for him or progressing into captaincy as he's previously indicated he wants to captain the club. There are many possible scenarios.

Difficult situation. Rooney was every bit as influential for United and the huge contract he got probably wasn't the right thing in the end for us either.
Liverpool without Salah in their team are a totally different beast though it can be denied. He's had a hand in 69% of your goals this season. The most of any player for their club so far. Just shows how reliant you are on him.

I think it is pretty obvious that if two players say they've never been offered a contract, then they haven't been offered a contract.
Unless you are accusing of them of lying about that they said, which would be absolutely pathetic in my opinion.

So you'd pay him and VVD whatever they want despite the fact their returns will diminish with time? That's not how you run a successful business. I bet both of them are asking for long contracts on big money which Liverpool, quite rightly, are not willing to pay.
Salah is a great player and having an excellent season BUT he won't last forever so i can see why Liverpool, FSG or whoever is in charge are being cagey re the contract terms

Both are still 2 of the leagues best.

fair enough, tbf, i wasn't aware of what the players had already said.

They haven’t said all that, Kash is adding his own version and putting it out as fact. He’s good like that.

‘To their shock’ is completely made up

Apologies for dopey Term. Both players have made these comments on Sky and the other media Outlet Salah was talking to.

I think it is pretty obvious that if two players say they've never been offered a contract, then they haven't been offered a contract.
Unless you are accusing of them of lying about that they said, which would be absolutely pathetic in my opinion.

No neo, I’m saying that they didn’t say they were ‘shocked that the club haven’t bothered to make them an offer’.
That’s just hyperbolic and made up.
