Everybody seemed a bit flat last night, on and off the pitch, maybe just the weight of expectation after Leipzig and the fact Brugge are decent. I don't think any of the players performed to their best, they didnt get into flow mode, Hatate and Engels no better or worse than the rest. Just one of those nights, take the point and move on.

No dissenters Heed.
In Hatate's defence I think the international committments with Japan and the travel to fvck knows where play a part to the flat non existent performances when he's back.
Engels.....no defence.... Rank rotten.
Glass half full.....we didn't lose and if they had better finishers we would have. Final home game against Young Boys who are bottom of the table will be "must win". Anything else we pick up will be a bonus imo

i heard someone say "i'd punt him" talkin about hatate last night.
the midfield THREE were poor, nobody showed for the ball and when they did they just passed it back to our cb's anyway, who they just passed it to taylor and so on so forth.
At the very least hatate lost the ball trying to make something happen, easy to have 100% passing rate when all you do is pass to a cb and then point for him to pass it to the other.
Brugge set up well, they are a good team and knew how to play us. i don't think anybody played particularly well last night, maybe trusty, but we came away with the point.
the lack of service provided to kyogo was appalling btw.
it's amazing how engels and hatate were class after the RB game but now they are cvnts.
our fans need to chill the fvck out in the stadium, booing at half time, absolute whanks man
posted 2 days, 21 hours ago
Can't say I've seen more than 20-30 mins of Engels but he seems to be getting stick.
Is that cause he's poor or because he's not a stand out after costing 11m or something like that?
Credit to CCV for trying to get the front cover of the next Nick Hancock's Football Nightmares sewn up. The big dafty
That was class, bring it back.

i dont know if i blame ccv for that tbh, we should look up yeah but kasper abandoned his goal.
came as a result of juhn running all the way back with nobody to pass it to because the midfield 3 were missing.

I would rest both for the weekend at least, along with Taylor (who I’d happily rest indefinitely) and Kyogo … who must honestly be wondering what’s the point of his constant movement up top, when he rarely sees the ball.
posted 2 days, 21 hours ago
i thought engels was the worst of the 3 last night, could easily have hooked him at half time.
hatate lost the ball a few times, trying things, and mcgregor just kept giving it back to cb's, thats our CDM btw, the guy thats meant to start the move, forward not backward.
he's been playing really well this season, but he needs to turning on the ball and looking to start the move
posted 2 days, 21 hours ago
Hatate has always been inconsistent, even within games themselves.
He'll occasionally have games like last night where everything he attempts doesn't come off and it can leave us exposed.
On the flip side he can often be out most creative and influential player in midfield and finds passes that none of the rest of our team are capable of.
Like Maeda, if he was consistent they'd both be playing at a higher level.

Yip when Kuhn gets that ball the usual pass is a slip inside to the midfielder but Engels was almost on the half way line so Kuhn didn't have that pass to make.
You could go back a few seconds earlier and the ball from Trusty put us under pressure in the first place. He was really slow playing the ball last night
I wouldn't get too worried about our midfield not being great. Brugge set up to nullify us and it worked. They are a good team.
Overall it was a good point. More rotation between the midfield is required though see this nonsense I am seeing on twitter about how we should have kept Iwata - get that to fvck. Same people saying that probably booed at half time last night
We had a guy that reminded me of the wee ned from Still Game behind us that was a tactical genius in his own head

It wasn't a great performance, no doubt, but we will have them especially in Europe against better teams than we face usually, Brugge are good and they set up well, before our first Euro match this season all I wanted was to not get skelped every game so this has been a bonus
With Bernardo and McCowan we do have more than decent options and the CM positions should get rotated when needed or whats the point in having them?
posted 2 days, 21 hours ago
Think bernardo should have started last night. His game suits the european games better.
posted 2 days, 20 hours ago
we have chances to rotate and we don't take them.
kyogo, maeda, and hatate travel half way around the world for internationals and then come back and play, thats the time to rotate.
and i stress it again, you are allowed to rotate all 3. mcgregor does not have to play every single match.
posted 2 days, 20 hours ago
I think it's imperative that we don't play McGregor in every game this season to prolong his longevity and keep our midfield fresh.
posted 2 days, 20 hours ago
Wonder what is going on that McCowan hasn't got much game time recently
posted 2 days, 20 hours ago
yeah i wondered that myself.
thought valle did well when he came on last night.
i don't have much issue with taylor, and valle isn't long term, but imo if you have a player doing what taylor does and inverts you really need to be a better passer, it can't just go back all the time.

Yep, if you’re not going to have an actual DM (a physical guy with defensive instincts who can actually tackle), but instead play an AM in that position, then said player HAS to be able to move the ball forward. Been saying this for years when we play in Europe. Pep needs a Rodri (with effectively 4 CBs behind him), but we think we can play a front 6 without a defensive bone in their body (with the exception of maybe Engels). Hmm.
posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
I suppose the problem is that domestically we don't need a big CDM in there, so mcgregor in that role works just fine even though he isn't very good defensively.
But if thats the case he needs to the one to collect and get the ball moving. Space was an issue last night, to be honest they played their tactics brilliantly.

Hatate has been poor for quite some time now and he’s being lauded on past exploits. Hope he gets back to his earlier form because when he’s on it; he’s a huge difference to the team in being able to open up defences.
Engels time will come. He’s a player and a half.
Right now though, neither deserve a place in the starting eleven.

I'm not so clean cut on Hatate.. he's had real moments of quality and creativity in lots of games this season, stuff that nobody else in our team appears to be capable of doing.
The issue is that it often doesn't come off and due to the nature of the risky pass it leaves us exposed. We routinely get away with it at domestic level but it puts us in real trouble in the CL.
On the flip side when it comes off it can be the difference between winning a game or not, and it's a joy to watch too. I think we as fans have to lower our expectations sometimes.. if he was pulling off every creative pass he tries he'd be playing at a far higher level.
We are what we are. We either have solid but consistent players or mercurial but inconsistent players. Once every 3-4 years we find a player that has both positive qualities and we make a tidy profit on them.
It's frustrating at times but it's just where we are.
