Squad size

Richarlison Romero VDV Odobert Bentancur Solanke Vicario Moore all missing and Deki not fit enough to start.

That is not a squad size issue. That's an injury crisis.

If any of the player we sold started would anyone be happy with that?

Gio maybe but let’s be honest he’d be injured by now and doesn’t start over madders or kulu anyway who both played apart today

5 first team injuries (not including Bentancur, Solanke is just ill and Moore is a kid and not first team).

If 5 injuries kills us then its a squad size issue. + richarlison is a sicknote who we tried to sell and I would bet we wouldn’t have replaced anyway.

And VDV, Deki are a direct result of overplaying/high line due to Ange

No manager under ENIC`s miserable tenure has gone through a season with a complete squad of the required depth.

We will win nothing, we will try to juggle the PL and cups and fall short due to squad depth.

I predict we will lose to United in the League Cup, they will be a different side under Amorin`s honeymoon period, not that we would go all the way anyway, with the teams that are left in.

The FA Cup and Europa we could go deep depending on the draw, but the first decent team we face will probably knock us out.

The league will continue to be a mixed bag of results with this squad of players.

Levy out.

Yes true, so we should have signed more players no? Hoijberg could have been helpful to manage the squad games.

Anyway, Ange is the one blaming squad size himself

I thought it was a poor summer window but the outs were the only positive.

I wanted two more forwards ie Eze & another plus a Left option CB/LB but that won’t happen until Davies goes and the fact we are giving him another year will put that on hold again

The squad needs three more windows to be up there on all fronts in future seasons.

The outgoings weren’t the problem. Bringing only one starter in two transfer windows is.

Genuine question, is that actually a crisis or just a normal ebb and flow of injuries in the modern game?

We currently have Bradley, Tsimikas, Konate, Alisson, Jota all out and Elliot only just coming back. Just seems to be the way of modern football and we need bigger squad sizes to actually compete.

Most teams deal with injury crisis’s like you alluded to but ours has been happing in the same positions all season

RE the OP - I think the VDV point is unfair to blame Ange. It’s just his preferred way to defend - he never tries to win battles in the air as he would rather rely on his pace, which I think is unsustainable.

Apparently today is the 4th time in a row we have failed to win on a Sunday following a Europa game.

There is our problem right there, and kind of drop off / fatigue / lack of rotation and Ange ball does not work.

Not so much it doesn't work, but we haven't made it work yet.

Agreed - if you run into too many squad changes at once it can risk too much cf Forest when they came up.

Poor performance today, in part due to absentees, but we are inconsistent regardless. I think the league is a write off boys, just gotta hope we can get a cup.
‐------------------------‐---------------
Genuinely, you didn't seriously think we had a cat in hell's chance of winning the league after the way we capitulated at the end of last season and only adding one starter (Solanke)?

And anyone who keeps adding Richarlison being out injured as a loss to the team....come on?

😂😂 of course not, I’m referring to top4 for the league. Which isn’t even that important to me tbh

These are the reasons people hate the way ENIC run the club.

We have the lowest wage amongst our "rivals".

Whether this will change once new investment is agreed who knows?

But I've read plenty reports online saying by lowering wages as much as possible the club becomes much more "attractive" to potential new owners, who would then pay close to what they want to sell the club.

That's frankly outrageous!

A few called it in the summer: why did we get rid of so many players knowing that we had more matches this season with Europe, and last season we burnt out with only 41 matches played - only 1 game more than lowest possible.

——-

Because we are spurs, where stupidity happens on a regular basis.

Doesn’t bode well considering we have Thursday - Sunday for the next 8 games.

Dreading next week v Chelsea. Fancy us to get slapped about v Bournemouth too.

Davies is playing damned well right now...best of his career. We're lucky to have him!

Whos fault it this? Did Ange saction it? Its not even like we made good money on most of the outgoings…
** No faaakin Idea!

Is this also a fault with our gung ho style? Eg VDV and his hamstrings due to 99999 last ditch tackles. Does Ange need to adapt?
* Yes, but that will never happen, Mate! VDV is unreliable, good when fit, but only one match per week.

Poor performance today, in part due to absentees, but we are inconsistent regardless. I think the league is a write off boys, just gotta hope we can get a cup.

* Squad we put on field today was good enough to win this match, and should have won this match.

* Fulham consistently hit our high line when we went uppfield, they booted the ball downfield and won the footraces. Porro had a torrid time on the right side.
And eventually the inevitable happened....they scored!

* Aussieglue will never learn.

we still struggle to be able to buy new players because of a squad imbalance with non-homegrown, club trained players etc for the europa league especially

the amount of absentees at the moment is just ridiculous though you cant really expect to manage that, even better squads than us struggle with comparable players missing

comment by Phenom (U20037)

some of it does fall on management though

notably, the full backs are knackered as we havent used Gray (i know young but very expensive investment) and Spence enough in the league to spread minutes around

comment by Phenom (U20037)

then senior players like Bissouma, Sarr, Maddison, Son and BJ also are not able to up it when you have a bit of an injury crisis
