The biggest disgrace is that by 2038 the UK will not have held a World Cup for 72 years,

Given that one thing the UK is very good at is hosting these kinds of events.

Sadly the UK isn't good at being as corrupt as FIFA.

It's been to Russia and Qatar recently, is Saudi any worse.................

Since England last had it Mexico will have had it three times and the US and Germany will have had it twice. It is rather strange England hasn't had it and don't look like having it soon either.

We massively messed up Euro 2020 final with 1000s of unticketed fans getting in... a very dangerous situation.

I doubt that's why we got overlooked... But let's not paint the picture that we are great at this stuff.

The UK generally is. The London Olympics was fantastic. The UK 2000 celebrations were one of the best in the world, The celebrations we had for the Queen before she died were watched by millions throughout the world.

There are many sticks to be the UK with. But hosting events is not one of them.

But both of those WCs are awarded in very dubious circumstances when corruption was absolutely rife and people have since gone to prison. When investigating Russia's WC bid, it was reported that Russia advised they could not assist as they had shredded all the bid documents. It was that easy to dodge accountability.

We are supposed to be moving on from these corrupt times but instead we see a governing body, changing its own rules and processes, manipulating WC time table, having 2030 spread over 3 continents, (Europe Africa S America) to make the flimsy case that since Qatar it has been to every other confederation. In that process they also screwed Australia's ability to host, by making it almost impossible to bid. When they announced the 2034 process, they gave 25 days for interested parties to express their interest. This in itself is a ridiculous timeframe. Within 1 hour of that Saudi's had put their hat in the ring, and within 1 hour of that the Asian Football Confed (AFC), which includes Australia, had put its full backing behind the Saudi bid, with the protestations of Assuie NZ and Malaysia over ruled. These three had planned a joint bid but could not be seen to be bidding against another AFC country and against the support of Saudi by the AFC .

My first gripe here is not what an awful country Saudi Arabia is, we know how they act. They what they are and people can chose to deal with them or not.

It's FIFA who have bent over double for them, manipulating the whole process to make this happen and then trying to dress it up as a fair democratic process when it's been very clearly fixed.

Like the Qatar WC, we all know how these things come to pass but it is almost impossible to shine a light on the facts as they are buried so deep. Not too far removed from the Man City situation.
