Just had a boiler room scam call me and get me to invest in "diamonds". Was an interesting call.

http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/cold-callers-promote-diamond-fraud-jan14

I pretty much described to him the type fraud he was trying to do as the type of fraud I would be really worried about getting conned with. "I am sure you appreciate my concerns, etc etc" "Diamonds are incredibly illiquid how can you expected me to take on your word, the value of a diamond set by your own appraiser who clearly has an incentive to maximise returns for you by overvaluing the asset"

Initially he tried to sell me "gold" before i explained to him i had been long on gold since 2008 and hold fully regulated and underwritten Exchange Traded funds.

He said he would call back the end of the year, but i told him to hang fire. I asked him to give me an asset or stock that I could measure his techical expertise and market understanding against. He then said" but each diamond is different, so how can you measure how it performs", it was at that point he relised he was onto plums.
