re the thing on c4. i have laughed at bits of it, including where they fired the rocket the wrong way round .

i have to say though, im not too sure how sensible it is to make a comedy taking the pizz out of terrorists.

my own view on terrorism has always been that it is mainly perpetrated by people to give them a sense of purpose and belonging (and sometimes out of jealousy), rather than genuinly being by the underlying causes which the banner which they wave as represents.

funnilly enough i read a similar comment by jeremy clarkson recently where he said,

"when we look at the world's trouble spots today - the gaza strip, somaliland, sri lanka and so on - we find large chunks of the population which have no possibility of playing grand theft auto. this means they are bored. they could play dover patrol or moustrap but choose instead to hold up oil tankers or cut off their neighbour's arms"

very true imo.

(or something like that)

my uneducated opinion is:

People are lead to believe that they have a just cause, almost programmed to believe - the people who lead them have a different motive, ususally greed or power, or both

i didnt say my opinion is educated, it's just what i think

im sure what you say has some truth in it too. theyve got to get into it in the first place though, and i think where my point comes in is that that is out of a desire to have something to do and have some purpose in their life. doing god's work being about a noble and purposeful cause as you can get. if the same people were in high paying jobs etc though, i dont think theyd give a shiitt about fighting for their god or their country or whatever it is.

poverty breeds terrorism for sure, although lets not forget Bin Laden was a very wealthy man, but he had his own motives, and didnt think blowing himself up was his purpose in life (or death).

its so much easier to convince someone in poverty that their life is worthless because of some reason to do with your agendat, you then pray on that and programme them to believe what you want them to, religion is reat for that, they then end up carrying out the "dirty" work to suit their mentors needs

i think my example of people in very well paid jobs was not quite making the point i wanted to. my stress is on the boredom and sense of not doing somehthing purposeful and collaborative.

as you point out, bin laden may be an exception for this, but as you also point out he very much had an agenda. the same may apply to some others.

some people in very important jobs are involved in terrorism too, people have a different sense of what terrorism is also depending on what side you are on

A lot of people thought George Bush and Tony Blair were terrorists.
