Maddison might have just had the best individual performance of any player under ange so far

He was insane, had I done my player ratings articles I would have considered giving him a 10

Midfield 3 all putting in 8//10+ makes football easier

Some of my observations:
I thought Son and BJ were poor.

I was interested in our pressing structure, Udogie often supported really high and was exceptional at turning the ball over. Thought he was our 2nd best player today. Porro didn’t really at all and sat back.

I don’t know if that’s instructive or player instinct.

Similarly I thought it was one of the best pressing performances I’ve seen from Son - but BJ was confused and often covered the wrong man or reacted late

I disagree about Vicario.

I was really happy with how aggressive he was in coming out of his box and coming for crosses etc. I also think the first mistake he made on the ball is fine, that happens to Alisson and Ederson and Raya etc once or twice a season too. If it was a common issue I’d be more frustrated.

He’s just like Gomes for me. Can pull off a worldly save but next second do something so stupid

people will always criticise the keeper who come off their line and get it wrong more than the one who doesn't even come for it but the latter is so much more damaging, it's genuinely like defending with one less player in the box

I mean he doesn’t normally come off his line though

Which is why I thought today was good.

He also got no protection, got slammed when he came from the throw in and still got there.

Most promising performance of the season for me and his passing was good.

Haven't seen a replay but it looked like Vicario was lucky to not get a red. Good keeper but he needs to calm down

But yeah Maddison was phenomenal

I think Vicario showed a lot more promise today being much better at coming for crosses/long throws etc at one of the craftiest teams in the league.

Made a real effort to work on his biggest weakness and was largely good. Yes he made one bad error but it trends well.
