Shielding the back 4 is vital, any professional footballer can round a defender with relative ease, its a lot harder to get past the defender after. It is always better to have the defender to sweep up the midfielders mistakes and thus keep a relatively good structure instead of being horribly exposed by trying to cover another defender.

teams break though edin. youre never going to get much shielding on the break. the defence has to do its job.
