Dragusin was bough for $40 mln to cover for Injuries and while Archie Gray is still young plenty of cash was spent on him too. We were Told by the club that both Gray and Bergvall were NOT bought for the future and were 1st team ready. Perhaps if we kept our back 4 together (Stopped the FBs tucking inside into midfield and had our CM sit a bit deeper and weren't so easy to play through then these injuries would have less of an impact...... Drag and Gray were Massively let down by their managers ridiculous tactics yesterday...... But hey, Ange thinks it was OK coz Liverpool are Good and we scored 3 (2 when the game was dead).... Giving Ange more time is a waste of everyone's time and money... He's out of his depth and he knows it.... Our results would improve under Ryan Mason.... He would at least try and make us hard to play against....

Appreciate the work done here but I think my comment from the other thread on the same topic stands in this context:
,

It's a bit of both tbf. I don't think there's a manager alive that gets us a win in that game with Dragusin and Gray as our centre backs with Forster in goal. That said, there's definitely an argument there's a few managers out there that would have us on a higher points total right now. Even just a couple of losses turned into wins and we're 5th place.
---
I think that's pretty reasonable? I don't think anyone would suggest we're not going to have the odd sh!t results regardless of who's manager. That's football.
What's more interesting IMO is the discussion around how we're playing regardless of the result. We've swung full circle from trying not to lose every game to only trying to win every game. There's a decent argument for a pragmatic approach. Maybe what's happening to Pep and maybe Klopp saw it coming, that the era of football fundamentalism is over

Why does it have to be binary? Like if a manager admits injuries affects performances he's absolving himself of his work? It gets weird after a while, watching them trying to pretend like missing basically a whole team of players isn't having an impact cos the press will murder him for it and fans will flock to it like sheep
We can have poor results because the squad is depleted and also because of tactics, also because of individual errors, and also because the opposition is just better, and also some combination of all the above.

I dont think any of the injuries result in all of our full backs, Including now Spence charging forward without any cover from the DMs, who also charge forward. It's complete madness and it never changes.
Gary Neville and carra played a lot of football, they said you simply cannot press for 90mins, it's impossible. So why attempt it.
Ange is causing a lot of the injuries by asking so much of the players, Celtic fans will say the same. He said "we do things differently" in training. But it's obviously not working. The medical dept are also now getting the blame.
The reason we are getting so many hamstring injuries is that from the opposition goal kick, we are on halfway, the, balls goes over the top and the entire defence has to sprint to try and get and get back.
It's mad enough doing this against 11, but with 9 men and half a defence against Chelsea - completely bonkers. There is just no excuse for it and it wasn't the best for our team or our players at the time.
It was an Alarm bell then, and nothing since has convinced me he can make in game changes when things aren't working.
It's soooo frustrating... But the issue is getting worse as everyone has worked us out. With our first 11 we get caught out plenty, with Micky especially missing it makes what he's doing even more mad.

Completely agree.
When playing at such a mental pace and with humungous holes in wide areas especially, it's no surprise individual errors are occuring. The margin for error is so small.
The great Barca team managed it for a long time but they had xavi, Iniesta and Busquests keeping the ball for fun. They didn't have sonny and Johnson giving the ball away the moment somr pressure was applied.

Sandy, with all respect, the article literally highlights losses from this season with mostly full strength 11 starting. It clearly highlights that the way we play is mostly to blame.

What’s not mentioned enough is the way we play causes so many of these injuries. Ange almost acts like we’ve been unlucky - we haven’t bar Vicario, the problem is we’re running players into the ground.
Udogie is a perfect example of this - didn’t pick him for the Euro squad so Udogie played virtually every game - that decision doesn’t just look bad now, people were calling it out at the time.
We don’t have the squad needed to play the way he wants, it’s a simple fact. So for things to improve one of two things needs to happen:
A) the chairman signs the players needed
B) the manager adapts
A was never going to happen and Ange has made it clear B won’t either, so now we either change Ange or continue in this mental manner where our last 3 results have been 5-0, 4-3 and 6-3, and finish mid table without silverware.

I think the Brighton defeat highlights this very well. Just continued pushing our full backs right up the pitch giving them loads of space to exploit even when 2 up, they were bound to come out firing at half time.
A sensible approach would be to at least keeps things steady for ten minutes after half time, extiniguish hope, keep the crowd quiet.
The utd game at 3-2, porro goes charging upfield leaving Garnacho in acres of space. Why is our manager not shouting from the touchline to hold the shape, see out the game.
There is so much that doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm all for giving players freedom to express themselves, that should defo be the default. But wow, give instructions when needed. Otherwise all he's doing is picking an eleven and making subs (reactively most of the time). May as well go sit in the stands.
I was digging through some stats earlier, this is astonishing...
At home this season. We have scored first 3/9 times. Our points yield from this is just 1.33ppg.
There are only 4 worst teams than us in this area when scoring first at home.
Wolves, Southampton and Ipswich!!
If that doesn't ring alarm bells I don't know what does.

Agree, I mentioned the same thing further up in the article.the odds of picking up injuries for our players especially defenders is extremely high.
You can see them straining every muscle to get back, it's no lack of effort. Van de Ven must sprint half the pitch 8-10 times a game. No wonder his hammy are going.
Udogie will be next if we aren't careful.
posted 2 weeks, 6 days ago
I do think he has to take some culpability for training methods injuring people, but I'm not really sure how you solve the hamstring issue with defenders having to do sprints.
Top teams mostly play in the oppositions half - if you wanna be a top team you have to do that and you're always gonna be vulnerable to a counter attack.

We do it from goal kicks and we don't mix it up so stay on halfway regardless of what's happening in the game. There is no respite. The games are end to end, we are never fully in control like some sides.
The lack of keeping possession isn't on Ange necessarily, with the likes of Sonny, Johnson, bissouma and to some extent Sarr give it away frequently.
But again, play to your strengths. It's general more controlled when Bentancur plays.
posted 2 weeks, 6 days ago
I guess you can negate the risk but if you wanna play as a top team, pragmatic or not you're always gonna run that risk. VDV is obviously great but he might just be one of those players that can't do what he needs to.

That’s where control and decent DMs come in. Pep’s City pre this shocking run and Klopps Liverpool, either hit you hard and fast on the turnover or they were slow and deliberate in possession high up the pitch so they weren’t giving it away.
Pep then had Rodri covering ludicrous amounts of space . Spurs had a Poundland version in Sissoko in our better times, just an absolute unit that can cover ridiculous distances.
We’re so careless in possession, BJ can’t dribble and his passing is meh. Kulu - great player but his stats for losing the ball are off the faaacking charts. Son has always been terrible at retaining possession. Solanke is good at it, but the absolute lynchpin for us is Maddison, if he is having a good game, then we tend to do well, if he isn’t then we’re like a faaacking pinball machine.

Because we don't slow it down and control the game it goes end to end and feels like a lottery.

Give it a rest Diamond. You are embarrassing yourself. Anyone with half a brain knows that injuries and lack of squad rotation because of them are seriously hampering the manager.
You seriously saying Mason would improve the results. He simply wouldn't.
