Increase squad size to 30. That would allow more fixtures to be played cos of more player options. Play more matches with higher intensity. Then get injuries. Increase squad size to 40. Which would give more player options. Which would allow more fixtures to be played. Increase squad size to 50. Double the amount of matches as now would be possible. But it may require an increase in squad size. Possibly to 60. Then more matches could be played. 70. More matches. 100. More matches. 1000. 3 matches per day, all year round. Would have the squad for it. And who doesn't want to see more football being played. But that may require a bigger squad.
ONE MILLION PLAYERS PER SQUAD
100 MATCHES ALL AT ONCE, ALL OF THE TIME.
Could expand to the moon once enough oxygen available there and could expand squads to two million. Then could play more matches.
But then again, would require a bigger squad...

I'm not sure I buy into this argument that the game has become less technical. Of course physicality has become a huge part of the game, especially with the way teams setup and are expected to press. All players are expected to be athletes nowadays. But that is part of evolution of sport more generally and the increased importance that sports science etc plays within this. Whatever sport you look at whether its football, tennis, golf etc, those performing at the highest level will all be considered athletes compared to their counterparts 20/30/40 years ago.
There's an awful lot of nostalgia when people look back to previous eras. If you actually watch a game (even from the likes of Arsenal and Utd) back from the 00s-2010's era and before, the level of football played from a technical standpoint isn't comparable. The way keepers and defenders are expected to play out from the back, or how midfielders are expected to receive the ball surrounded by players just didn't happen in previous eras. Of course there were incredibly technically gifted players from all eras (as you've mentioned) and there is an argument to suggest that players played with more freedom, compared to todays more rigid "system-setups". But from a pure technical standpoint, I don't think todays game can be compared.
And to answer your question, I think increasing squad sizes will only benefit the teams at the top who will end up just stock piling more top players. It would probably actually just increase the gap even further between the premier league and the rest.

it certainly makes sense. Especially as the Governing bodies keep adding more and more games.
I also think the home grown rule needs reconsidering.
For UEFA its daft that Dier at Spurs was never a HG player but Cesc was at Arsenal.
Through PSR, the need for clubs to have successful academies is ever more important and EU law cannot stop clubs cherry picking the best youngsters from around the world and calling them HG. But EU law can stop leagues limiting players on the basis of their nationality. It does nothing to support the development of native youngsters which i think was the purpose of the rule in the first place, put crudely to stop cheaper foreign imports blocking he path of academy kids.

The likes of ESR, Vieira, Nelson couldn't get sufficient game time the last couple of seasons when fit.
We have a pretty big squad of senior players, relative to the other clubs in Europe (Chelsea 22, Villa 21, Liverpool 22, Man City 21, Man Utd 22, Spurs 23 but 4 players with no 1st team apps).
One big criticism of Arteta I have had is his inability to supplement the squad with u21s - whom you can use an unlimited number of players signed to the club. He has done it more this season, which has allowed MLS and Nwaneri to make an impact and others like Heaven, Maldini, Nichols, Setford who have allowed first XI rests. However, neglecting this part of the squad in recent seasons has arguably cost us 2 titles...
25 is a fair squad, and as shown is not even utilised by the clubs in Europe. No need to increase it and have squad fillers. Just scout, buy, develop and use u21s!!

Not directly correlated. The investment into the England setup in recent years has had a huge effect
posted 1 week, 2 days ago
The number of English under-21 players appearing in the Premier League has increased over the past decade from 2.9% in 2012-13 to 5.4% in 2022-23, a higher percentage than the top leagues in Spain, Germany and Italy.
======
The HG rule was introduced in 10/11 I think, and this shows how it has benefitted English players (not HG inc foreigners like Cesc)
Also, in 2021, the Times reported a 17 year high in numbers of England eligible players in the PL. This at the same time more English players are playing in other leagues.

Yeah, Saliba out for 4 months, Odegaard out for 3 months, Saka out for 4 months, Timber missing a whole season, Merino missing 3 months etc etc etc
As Albert King once sang, if Arsenal didn't have bad luck they would have no luck at all.

Compare that to your challengers over the past 2/3 seasons. This year you’ve definitely had more injuries but the last 2 you really haven’t had it as bad as Liverpool or City, or many other teams in the league.

It would be nice to see both teams battling it out with a full squad, won’t happen though because the authorities insist on running players into the ground.
FWIW I think city beat us both with no injuries.

I wish City get stripped of the PL titles they won. It should be awarded to the teams that came 2nd. We would both have 2 more league titles each. United will get 1 too.
The NBA is a great example of how to ruin a league with too many games. Sides have to essentially throw games by dropping key players and in general most games are played in 2nd gear due to the ridiculous schedule.
For football, start by fecking off international games during the domestic season (unless it's tournaments that can only be held mid season due to the heat). Run small qualifying tournaments in the odd years and the tournaments in the even ones.
Make the club European tournaments sensible in terms of games and in England make the League Cup have compulsory numbers of young players for the squads.
