I genuinely think Elon Musk is one of the most dislikable people on the planet. His whole life he's been celebrated and for what? All he's done is take credit for other people's hard work.

He didn't create PayPal. 3 other people did and then he came on board later with money his Dad gave him.

He didn't create Tesla either. Again that was the same pathway.....he was an early investor and eventually took over as CEO. The company already existed.

Tesla Cars are a status thing too. Nobody can look me in the eye and tell me they are good value for money or practical because they're not. They aren't even particularly good for the environment either because the electricity needed to run them has to come from somewhere.

The fact he's got into bed with Trump doesn't surprise me one bit. They are both cut from the same cloth and both born into money.

whole agenda on X is about free speech

---------------------------------------------------------------

By the way, the whole initial 'free speech absolutist' schtick was very quickly exposed. Act One was letting back the overt racists and effectively killing the platform's moderation services, so that hate speech, incitement and personally targeted racist abuse more or less has carte blanche now. (Sunder Katwala on Twitter is very good at painstakingly cataloguing this trend - https://x.com/sundersays.) Act Two was using the algorithms and opaque machinations of Twitter to suppress and sometimes block speech that Musk doesn't like. It's his platform and he can run it how he likes, but he can't run it like that and credibly claim that the driving motivation is a commitment to free speech.

As a coda, during the recent presidential election, his operations in support of Trump utilised Musk's social media platform, data and money in ways we still can't fully quantify. But we do know that it included sending content to Jewish voters claiming Kamala was anti-Semitic, and sending content to Muslim voters claiming she was enthusiastically pro-Israel. Since at least the time he disgracefully defamed a diver who was helping rescue kids in Thailand, simply because the guy pointed out that Musk's hypothetical submarine wouldn't work, it's been clear that he has little interest in the truth.

I'm no fan of the CCP, but I'm personally invested in seeing the day that the cheap and apparently good quality EVs coming out of China expose Tesla as a company that has been grossly overvalued by the markets.

He's whole agenda on X is about free speech...which I kinda get tbh

With regards to Britain, it's specifically targeted at people who are being jailed for posts on social media in relation to rapists and other criminals getting softer sentences
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Musk's agenda isn't free speech though, it's free speech that he agrees with.

Accounts that have criticised Musk recently have lost their blue checkmarks and their subscribers, others have been outright banned or muted.

The power of marketing and branding I guess because when you strip back all that nonsense.....they are pretty awful cars really as an overall package. Expensive, impractical and very ugly and bland looking. You'll never hear somebody say that's a great looking motor about one.

He's an absolute pr-ck, but also arguably the most powerful man on the planet which is very worrying. Can't see it lasting long before him and Trump fall out, who knows what'll happen then?

He's basically a real life Bond villain but lacking in any style whatsover.

People seem to confuse freedom of speech with the freedom to say whatever you want without consequences.

It's like the difference between the right to bear arms doesn't give you the right to go around shooting people.

If you want to see suppression of free speech just watch the US. Trump is already issuing lawsuits to silence any press negative of him. And appointing MAGA judges to see they suceed. Trump hates the free press, and will do his best to destroy it. Even today a cartoonist has left the Washinton Post because the editor refused to print her cartoon of the good and the great (including the WAPO owner Jeff Bezos) kneeling to kiss Trump's hand. The free speech shiyte is sheer hypocrisy. The only freedom they want you to have is the freedom to agree with them.

Wasn't it specifically because of Bezos that the Washington Post pulled the illustration?

Becoming? I think they’ve more than proved that they’ve attained this by electing trump twice.

I think Musk has read the room wrong.

I’m not sure you’ll get a large enough following to back Tommy Robinson and his band of merry morons. Certainly not in the short term.

He’s going too hard and too fast, and he’s making himself look like a bit of a nutjob imo.

Absolutely scandalous that he can post these things on a media platform with no consequences whatsoever.

As per my first comment on this thread, I do wonder how much of it is sincere (whether due to radicalisation / mental illness / cognitive dissonance after mistaking the way the far right can dominate noise on social media) vs something more calculating (whether that's trolling in a knowing way or believing that moving the Overton window away from support for liberal democratic institutions is useful, even if it doesn't go as far as the things he's advocating). I think there's a certain amount of evidence on both sides, not a simple answer. But it's clear he's a really malevolent force in our world.

The UK should ban Twitter. Would be much better for our democracy and also cause Space Karen to have an almighty meltdown.

Don't know why we haven't done that yet.

Misinformation platform. Now he's attacking our democracy, soon he's about to have political power to go with his monetary power which is why we are pussayfooting around him.

We're in for a rocky relationship with America, accept it and stand up for the UK by bringing in laws to strengthen our democracy and cut our foreign money/interference as much as possible. If we don't the next government could have a worrying ideology.

Closest we have seen to a real life bond villain ever. He is a very dangerous man and he already has fsr too much power. 6k+ satelites in the sky and counting, wants 42k.

With him and Trump at the forefront of news now the world is a much more dangerous place. Well done all the cants that went for Trump. that was the beginning of this madness.

What a ridiculous thing to say. Fascist really. Let's ban a free speech platform because you don't like it? Very very North Korea.

He seems to speak far more politely about the rulers of governments that actually supress access to Twitter. Maybe if we were to ban the site, and set up a couple of concentration camps, he'd stop defaming our great country as a dictatorship.
