What a weird quirk if they haven't!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's an unwritten rule in English football that we can't both be good at the same time. Crazy how it seems to swing back and forwards between both clubs.
We had the 60's....they had the 70's and 80's
We had the 90's and 00's.....the 10's was fairly split and obviously the 20's has been for them.
It's the biggest rivalry and also quite a strange one.

Is quite funny though how the fanbases have done a 180 on each other in 10 or so years.
It's gone from Liverpool's sole purpose every season to beat United whilst United competed for the title, to now United's sole purpose is to beat Liverpool whilst Liverpool compete for the title. Add in gloating over historical trophies as well.
I wonder if we're ever destined to both be consistently good at the same time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure we could enjoy it. It would be such high stakes we'd all be crippled by anxiety. When we got to the CL final in 2008 and were waiting for either Chelsea or Liverpool in the final, I remember reasoning that Chelsea were more likely to beat us (we were neck and neck in the league that season, and Liverpool well back). But I still wanted Chelsea in the final, because even if we were less likely to win it, it eliminated the possibility of losing a CL final to Liverpool. Even at the safe distance of 17 years, it still makes me feel a bit sick thinking of that hypothetical.

A pretty good day. Went six points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand. United meanwhile went up to the lofty heights of 13th, seven points about Ipswich and the relegation zone.
Really strange reaction from United fans today to a draw. There's a guy in work giving it large, laughing his head off as if United won.
Oh how the mighty have fallen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh give it a rest, TOOR.
Everyone was waiting for an absolute pummeling yesterday. United have been absolute pants and Liverpool have been excellent.
It was a poor result for you, a good result for us.
Being pleased at that doesn’t mean we can also be unhappy with the overall picture at present.
You know all of this of course.

I understand this. However some people have reacted as if United won the game, which is what I was referring to.

Everyone rightly expected Liverpool to roll United over.
United have been in terrible form and Liverpool would have expected three points. Not getting them, and actually not even deserving to get them, would be a disappointment.
The fact it was against their big rivals would make that even worse.
To argue otherwise is a bizarre take.
As for trying to make out United fans only care about a game vs Liverpool these days… have a little watch of the FA Cup Final highlights last year. Not sure those fans felt their ‘cup final’ had already gone.

I said yesterday that neither side could complain if they lost, maybe Utd edged it if there did deserve to be a winner.
It’s a derby though, but like drawing with Everton, not great, but losing is absolutely awful.

I don’t even think we played THAT badly really. We really struggled with some of Utds movement, especially the deeper runs. Goals for Lisandro and a great chance for Maguire show that.
Thought it was an interesting games, played fairly and there were some meaty challenges too which we’ve not seen enough of in the derbies. I’m hopeful Utd can take points if our rivals now.

The 2009 one I actually felt Liverpool were better than United, think we demolished Real Madrid in the same season and then United a week later. Ultimately United had a better squad however and were able to call on them off the bench to claim late wins in several games. Unfortunately Torres got injured, Crouch had just left for games and we only gave Robbie Keane six months and were therefore left with N'Gog up front.

I think you’ve got it about right there Diafol.
Personally I’m now old enough to think a draw with Itd is never a bad result but it does show that if you’re even slightly off it in the Prem, teams can take points off you.

Bit of a wake up call for both teams really.
For United the realisation that perhaps we're not as bad as people suggest.
For Liverpool perhaps the realisation that they're not as good as people suggest.

Yes, and neither realisation is a bad thing I'd say. No real harm done for Liverpool in the league (it may even focus minds) and a bit of a confidence boost for United.

Yes, it was a good game and I think we performed a bit over form and expectation. Having said that I never thought it would be a thrashing. It's only the Newcastle game really where I thought we were really easy to play against.

Have United & Liverpool ever been head to head in a title race? I cannot remember it in my life time.
What a weird quirk if they haven't!

Yes we’re winning 20-19 atm

The 2009 one I actually felt Liverpool were better than United, think we demolished Real Madrid in the same season and then United a week later. Ultimately United had a better squad however and were able to call on them off the bench to claim late wins in several games. Unfortunately Torres got injured, Crouch had just left for games and we only gave Robbie Keane six months and were therefore left with N'Gog up front.
