Just got my daughter a Switch for xmas with Mario Kart. It has got some classic circuits from all the old games going right back to the SNES. I've really enjoyed reliving some old memories whilst whooping her and her mates.

It took about two races for my kids to beat me!

Let's hope future generations pay for our pension the same we're paying for pensions now. Unlikely as people are having less kids and the number of pensions will grow in the next 30 years.
Make sure you put as much as you can into your investments and pensions folks.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am 50/50 on this Busby. I have recently stopped my pension altogether. I put everything I have into the S&P 500. I know I am missing out on the employer contribution but the way it is going, I won't be surprised pension age going to 70 which is ludicrous.
I intend to retire at 55 in a sunnier country and a million should do it I reckon. If I get to pension age, the state one will do.

I think growing up for my generation (I turn 40 this year) was probably better than what any generation has had since.
University was more affordable
Housing market was better
A pint was certainly better value
No social media whilst at school
Music was genuinely better
Holidays were more affordable
Gig tickets were typically £20-30 and 40 at very most
Football tickets were much better price
Sadly in the last 20 years the whole mantra has been how much we can rip each other off in the UK for everything. Greed has won.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a very similar retirement plan, between 55-60.
I contribute 5% into pension, matched by my employer. It's free money which I don't believe the S&P can outperform over time (since my pension is fully invested in America anyway).
I do also invest every month into Vanguard too (currently a VUSA/ VWRP split). I'm lucky in that my parents drilled that into me from working age, so I've been dong that since I was about 22.
As RR said, who knows how AI will affect all of this.

LOL
You forgot about the late 70s and 80s. Which remarkably was still the best time ever to be alive as a young adult.

1999 to 2002
I had money to burn; a full head of hair; no responsibilities; home and away with City every weekend and out on the p*ss most nights of the week.
Throw a few women in to the mix. I was a very happy Bunny back then.

Oh! And Championship Manager 01-02
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’d say we are of similar age mate as this was me (apart from city )
I lost countless hours and days to champ man 01/02…..the best version of the game….simple to pick up but evolved enough to get stuck in
Can still play it now with updated teams although I haven’t played for a few years

I still play it. Never gets old

1997 was also the year OK Computer was released which kind of blew me away a bit when I first heard it.
The whole of the 90's was a good decade for music, movies, TV, culture, most things.
