It's bewildering that a purported big club should consider extending a loan spell of Werner never mind sanctioning it. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
We have made good strides in improving the recruitment side of things but Werner has been a misstep.

I think its as a simple as with the injuries the other options probably aren't better players right now, Lankshear will likely be better than Werner but as of today he isn't.
From all accounts Werner is excellent in training, he just gets the yips worse than almost any player I've ever watched.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
100%. It's the yips. There's definitely a player in there. You've only got to look at his Leipzig showreel for evidence of that. His biggest failing is his mentality. It's likely he'll never really get that back. His move to Chelsea was the worst thing he could have ever done.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Apparently in the warmups his finishing is excellent.
His mentality was even questionable at Leipzig though, I remember he asked to get subbed off when playing against some Turkish team cos it was too loud.

The thing is, we can't win. If we sign a youngster in the Yang mould, the hierarchy get accused of penny pinching. If we sign a seasoned Champions League winner on big wages to sit on our bench, we're accused of not being ambitious enough. I'm one of Levy's biggest critics but we can't bash him for this one.
There is a player in there, I've no doubt about that so I can see why he was signed and why his loan was renewed. He's a good squad rotation option but his confidence is shot to pieces now so he's not offering anything. That's on player though. I don't blame Ange or Levy for that.

I think Ange can take some blame for starting him ahead of Lankshear yesterday. I don’t understand that decision.
In the summer I thought resigning him on loan was a shrewd move, but my god, it’s been woeful. Doesn’t help that Richy is clearly not right whether it’s mental or physical.

But Werner is crap though, whether he's seasoned or not. Been rubbish for a number of seasons running now and he wasn't good enough last season to justify an extension on his loan.
I actually don't mind the signing of youngsters. If they're good enough they are old enough. As long as you can also bring in more established quality as well. Werner is neither.

Fact is Werner should be third choice behind Son Odobert, and may be even Moore as the season progressed.
Sadly he has had to be relied on too much.
Not many teams have a 3rd choice player in any position who is any thing like the levels of the main starters
Whos third choice behind Saka or Salah.
Werner only played 9 vs Tamworth as Richi is out.
You could argue Lankshear should play but with Moore also on the pitch, Deki rested, it would have been a bit dicey to have some many kids and a front 3 of Moore Lanks and BJ is also not the strongest. Werner has experience and you'd hope he'd pick up some confidence vs a non league team. Didn't work out that way sadly but you cannot blame Ange for Werner being g so awful vs a pub team.
In the ideal world it's Odobert Richi and Moore starting and allowing the others to rest.
Amges hand was forced and at least Werner getting 90 means Son and Dom didn't have to.
