Pretty certain you wanted Ange out 2 months ago Sandy, so you can’t exactly criticise supporters wanting him out when we likely sit 15th in the table by tonight. The results have been a disgrace. The injuries i can accept have been bad, but if you think we’re suddenly turning into this super team just because Romero/ VDV are back you’re incredibly delusional. Results will get better, but not by that much. Let’s be honest, we’re getting pulverised at Anfield
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do we have any of our defenders back for that game?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We do but highly likely they will be properly up to scratch as only will recently be back. Still think Liverpool pulverise us even with them fit
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I doubt we will ever see Romero in a spurs shirt again. After those comments and how he has lengthy spells out.

VDV is a hamstring waiting to rip. I think he's a crock now. Such a shame.

Sandy is definitely a wind up merchant who fancies himself as the Spurs version of Culer.

Speaks utter nonsense only for bites and just because he was around in the 50s/60s and saw some trophies he feels the need to talk down to others and be high and mighty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh honestly why do you think a supporter gets behind the club is on the WUM.

Spurs win a trophy, and you will be all over it.

Nice post Sandy, I was also thinking what our midfield will look like in the not too distant future when our centre backs are back and Bergvall and Gray in the middle with one other could be the answer.

Watching the game last night also told me how much Arsenal rely on that centre back partnership of Saliba and Gabriel, I thought they were both outstanding.

Could you imagine how Arsenal would do without them and Raya for a large part of the season.

PS. I also thought Spence was one of our better players and when Udogie comes back I think he would be a really good right back for us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We have the best defensive depth in the league and a couple of our backup defenders and Ben White are not fit, so if they were, we'd cope with Gabriel and Saliba's injury better than you think. It's in attack where our squad is very thin and Odegaard and Saka's long injuries this season has been of great significance.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Who would you have played last night with Saliba Gabriel and White all injured?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

White, a CB deployed at RB, is already injured and replaced long-term by Timber. Calafiori is a CB who we've played at LB (because Gabriel and Saliba are already settled there) and he's spent more than half his first season in the league injured and unable to fully settle. Tomiyasu is a player Arteta trusts to play anywhere in defence, but he's been injured all season. The main reason we'd struggle without Gabriel and Saliba is the backup options have been injured. It's not like 2 seasons ago when Saliba got injured long-term and we had to play Rob Holding (a Championship-level player at best) and lost the title race.

Not true Don. I wasn't happy with Ange after the Coventry match, but I have fully backed him since. I have said for months that cups are the way forward this season. And five straight domestic cup wins, and only one defeat in six European games is absolutely backing me up. Don't notice a lot of praise for Ange's cup record.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What cup record? We ain’t even achieved anything yet and highly likely to be going out to Liverpool. We scraped through a non league side in extra time in the Fa cup and we sit 9th in the Europa. Explain to me what cup record needs praising? We have been pretty diabolical since he’s been appointed bar the 1st 10 games. Not all down to Ange through, i blame most of it on Levy and the board, but if you’re accepting where we are in the league right now then your standards are incredibly low

It would help if VdV had to do less high intensity sprints to cover at the back when you go all gung-ho and lose the ball. Probably why he does his hammy so much.

Of course I will be all over it and celebrate it rightly so.

But I won't pretend it's all roses right now and we are not in a dangerous position and it looks very bad.

Call it as it is. That's being realistic and saying what I and the rest of the world seem to see.

We are not in a good place right now. Players don't seem to be up for it and the manager god only knows what mental state he is in.

You'd probably 6 to 10 points better off without your defensive injury issues, but I honestly believe it has been VERY convenient for Ange and your fans to avoid confronting the reality that you don't defend very well. It might end up saving him and buying him time he'd not have gotten with another flop season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Spurs have only let in eleven prem goals away from home all season. And that includes visits to Man United, Man City, Newcastle, Nottm Forest, Arsenal etc. So even with most of the best defence missing, it is hardly catastrophic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think you play better away and against better teams because their pressure forces a more defensive mind set curtailing some of the cavalier attacking. Players need to wise up though - FBs committed and the CDM decides to try dribble through the press

Look mate, I don't want to pick arguments with any supporters, but to not correlate to having up to 10 players missing for months is not going to affect a team is naive.

As I have constantly repeated when the injuries subside, and they will, then Spurs form will improve. So let6just wait until the end of the season. If the form doesn't improve by then with a settled side, then I will hold my hand up and say I got it wrong.

It’s so blindingly obvious to everyone bar Ange. The guy could be an absolutely phenomenal Prem defender with the right set up. Asking to do 6 recovery runs a game is injuring him, as soon as the weather turns cold he can’t do it. Yet we don’t rotate him and keep asking him to run like a lunatic.

It’s up there with not practicing set pieces for me - what sort of modern manager doesn’t have his side well drilled at set pieces. We’ve got a dinosaur version of Harry Redknapp telling them to go out there and run around a bit

My point is we have better depth than you do in defense and would cope better with your defensive injuries if we had it. Saying we'd cope better doesn't mean I'm saying we would be as good. I already said you'd probably be 6-10 points better off with a full-strength defense, but the injuries have become an excuse to mask deeper issues you have in the way you play and set up. You were full strength for much of last season and you were pretty sheite in the 2nd half of the season after looking like title contenders earlier in the season from the new manager bounce.

posted 1 day, 13 hours ago

This amazing cup record, the only notable sides we have beaten are City, Liverpool and United - and there are huge asterisks with all 3:

City - we are their bogey side, they had worse injuries than us at that point, they rested players.

United - a team currently 6th from bottom, new manager taking time to settle, we nearly threw it away

Liverpool - great performance, best of the season in fact, but it’s half time and we go to Anfield.

After that, we’ve not beaten a serious team in any other comp. Cov - championship, Tamworth - non league and we required ET, Qarabag and Ferencvaros - Championship standard at best, possibly league 1 standard, AZ - Crystal Palace standard.

Roma - couldn’t beat them even though they had sacked their manager and were in a relegation scrap.

Galatasaray - a 3-2 result was unfair on them, they could have scored 8 that night and it would have been deserved.

Rangers - couldn’t beat them, they aren’t even competing for the title this season

We’ve beaten 4 Prem level sides in the cup, that’s it - what is there to get carried away with?

In Europe, we’re not even in a top 8, skip the next round position

The Telegraph have done a hit piece as well.

Never a good sign when the sharks are circling - my original prediction of pre Tamworth might be out by a week I reckon

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Spurs have beaten City, United and Liverpool in cup games this season. But you don't think that's good enough?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Good results. Means f*** all if we likely get knocked out by Liverpool in a few weeks will it? The we beat city, united, Liverpool trophy. How exciting. Until we achieve something mate and win a trophy, then you can come at me with praising his cup record
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well you could say good results don't mean feck all in the Prem unless you win it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Which is bollox because there are CL places, Euro places, avoiding relegation.

If we were 9th I would be far less bothered and think let’s give him the chance to win a cup. But we could be bottom 6 after the weekend - that’s dreadful. Furthermore, I give us a 1% chance of getting through in the league cup - I think I’m right in saying Liverpool are still faves to win the competition outright.

We might beat Villa we have a good record there, but we could easily get knocked out.

The Europa - we will be put out by the first serious outfit we face

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well you probably wouldn't have scored the first goal without Gabriel. Would not have won at WHL without Gabriel. And no way would your defence be as good if the main CBs were missing for months on end.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We won't be as good a team without our first choice defender? Thanks for stating the obvious.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes but you still haven't told me who your CBs would be if Saliba, Gabriel and White were all missing for a couple of months. I thought that would be a pretty simple answer given you say you have better squad depth in defence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes he has, if fit it would be Calafiori and Timber with the potential of Tomiyasu to fill in

all miles behind the quality of Saliba and Gabriel and largely used as CBs at full back

if they were starting as many games as we had an 18 year old CM at CB im sure the gooners would be significantly worse off

United are the only serious team in the Europa according to most. And as Spurs have comprehensively beaten them twice already this season. Hardly likely to be much of a hurdle to beat them a third time.

Lazio have been the stand out team so far, Bilbao (whose ground is being used for the final) look class as does Lyon. I also wouldn’t rule Real Sociedad out yet.
