Good positive article
Re the Armenian goalie being sent off - i am sure if it was Shay Given we would be complaining. But as you said his raised arm did prevent a potential goal so you could argue the ref was right to give him a Red card.
The positives for me last night was the performance of Cox and Hunt and Walters when they came on off the subs bench.
Maybe having the out of form Doyle out of the play-offs isn't such a bad thing. Overall we have a strong squad which means its not such a disaster when some of our so called key players are out
I thought Walters played very well when he came on. Held it up well off his chest, very good close control. Linked well with Hunt.
He didn't look phased by the event at all either.
Hopefully Robbie can do a Lazarus and be ready for the playoffs. People may think he is past his sell-by, but defences are going to be afraid of an international goal scorer of 50plus. Maybe even enough to psyche them out into making a mistake, or lifting him.
If I were Trapps I would have a really good look at Leon Best for the play-offs. If he thinks he is worthy, then there is a big front man, who can win the ball in the air, has good feet and knows where the net is. However we know that Trapps loves a settled side, 11 players and a sub, so not bloody likely. But you never know the old-fox might surprise us yet.
Outside of that I am quite comfortable that a Walters and Long/Cox front two can do the job for us. They are all a handful and to be honest I think some teams will struggle if we decide we will play longball all night long. Depends on the side, but if it is appropriate then do it all night long. Some sides just can't deal with it because they are not used to it. If you don't believe this then look at the Ireland-Algeria friendly prior to the last world cup at the RDS. Longball, 3 goals and goodnight Algeria, who were vaunted as a decent side.
Hot-ball, cold-ball and I hope we get Estonia, all respect to them.
