He definitely left Ade isolated in his constant quest to chase the ball like a kid in an under 11's game.

I'm not sure we should start pointing fingers too much though. We didn't have a great deal of luck in that game. Newcastle's first goal came from us losing possession in midfield when, i think, Modric's pass struck the referee and rolled back to Newcastle. That's just unfortunate. On another day we would have been 2-0 before Ameobi struck that ball.

Until defoe starts playing often and does bu gger all in the game like he usually does, i'm more happy than anyone to see defoe playing better but how long will it last? As good as a finisher he can be, he also can be truely awful as proven by his shot at the end where he should of looked up and put the ball in to Adebayor who had an open goal waiting for him .... Van der Vaart has a few bad games and people use the scapegoat route. Defoe is a good striker but he is not on the same level as VDV neither does he have the same intelligence as VDV...........Van der Vaart all the way for me

to be honest the ideal thing would be play a 4 - 3 - 3 but we could only do this if bale and lennon were flying. which they certainly are not.

this is the formation that would best use our best assets.

gk

4 at back

two from sandro/parker/thudd/modric depending on occasion

vdv/modric

lennon ade bale

defoe off bench when necessary.

I don't think we should of VDV. Yesterday, I would have played Defoe but not because I think he is better than VDV but that he would have been sharper as he hasn't played two games in 4 days and traveled around Europe. For most away games I'd play VDV ahead of Defoe as he keeps the ball well and scores.

I believe VDV actually cost us a top 4 finish last season and costing us this season, Harry seems to be changing the team to suit him not the team. I don't like it that way, we are a 4-4-2 team not a useless 4-5-1 team.

Did he???? even though he scored 14 goals and assisted 9 .......I think you will find the useless trip of Pav, Crouch and Defoe cost us last season because they could only muster a pathetic 15 goals between them all season .....VDV with a better striker like Adebayor will work wonders as proven against Wigan 1st half where we demolished them.

Wonderful thing ......Hindsight.

Pav, Crouch and Defoe can't play as a lone striker so yes it cost them

Wigan are a pathetic team, against a half decent team like Newcastle VDV disappears. I can see why Madrid didn't want him and why he succeeded at Ajax and Hamburg, quality in a rubbish league and quality in an average team.

is it time to drop bale to accommodate vdv? i think a midfield and strikeforce of 3-1-2 would suit us. midfield 3 of modric sandro and parker, vdv behind ade and defoe. with sandro and parker in midfield as well as vdv dropping slightly back i dont think we would get overrun in midfield

I hate VDV after his attitude he's displayed at being subbed, not being in the Europa squad, moaning about being play out of position and thinking he must play AMC with his sod every one else attitude.

give it a rest doo doo, your prob one of those supporters that be moaning at Defoe calling him "sh *t" in a few games. You clearly didn't watch many spurs games last season if you thought VDV was useless and ruined our season .....He bloody carried us because our strikers were so ** **** useless!!! Defoes goal was excellent and as i stated he is playing well and it's great to see that but that last shot he made where he should done much better was a prime example of what defoe is about..... Never looks up for a better option and with his head down shoots the ball straight at the keeper, he does this most of the time.

bale in a central 3? he would be lost i think.

i am wondering whether at the moment he is worth a starting place. would be happy to see andros townsend start at blackburn. lets see what the kid can do

VDV has scored three goal in three games and scored more goals against Arsenal than any other player in the history of the PL. Don't write off VDV.

Chronic - Its the only real way to accommodate both VDV (who should always start) AND 2 strikers

What angers me is why didnt we try out a few formations in pre-season?! Instead we take AND play Keane in South Africa

Oh and Hoilett once again looked a right handful for Blackburn

posted on 17/10/11

bit out there i guess, but cld we play rafa out wide and give bale a go playing off the main striker.....?!

maybe in a home game,or even switch in a game we are comfortable in.....

just a thought, nice to have options......

I hope VDV does prove me wrong but at the moment I don't believe he deserves to start, maybe when Lennon is back and Modric is in the middle he will get better service. But he needs to stop running all over the place and tiring himself out especially since he has weak hamstrings.
