Real Hate Or Extreme Banter

for my part I spend a lot of my working time in Larkhall, for those of you who don't know is a protestant enclave. The vast majority of my colleagues are dyed in the wool bhuns. Got to say though, like people in general they are a good bunch of lads. There was an orange walk parade last week and as two of us stood watching it pass, my workmate, who's a Rangers fans commented 'here come the villiage idiots'.

So in that spirit we as Celtic fans must remember that there are good bhuns out there like Dos Dados, who are more interested in a bit of banter, and not assume ( which is all too easy sometimes) that they are rabit right wing catholic haters.

So respect to the decent blues brothers, but as a Celtic fan, I just wish there were more descenting voices against the hate peddlers who seemed to have hijacked your team.

I joined this a couple of years ago but left after a short stay. What brought me back was the genuine warmth and mutual respect shown by Hof, Ethel, Atheist, Puyol, RGG, Leo,Capital etc etc. Apologies to anyone I've missed.

As you quite rightly say Guerilla, Dos can be added to that list. I'll leave you with a song line and perhaps you can have a go at who it is.

depends on the company really, and i think that goes for both fans. i have guys on facebook etc who are pally wally but when you see them talking to other rangers fans they spout some insane hatred in their posts, celtic fans no doubt do the same.

leads me to beleive they are 2 faced so i dont bother with them. most of my friends are rangers fans though.

I think in most cases it is just extreme banter but a couple of points on it;

Regardless of which it is it doesn't paint a great picture of us to those out with the bubble.

For those that are perpetuating real hate, extreme banter is a handy refugee should others feel they have gone too far.

It all depends on whether you are a football fan who wants to see your team do well and get one over on your OF rivals for bragging rights, or whether you look at the religious history attached to the OF, buy into all that nonsense and continue to spout it, passing it on to a younger generation.

It's mood dependant.

I actually think some of it is mood dependent. In my old work there was tons of Rangers fan and all throughout the season we had a good laugh with some banter.

After the 2 each game at Ibrox a bunch were sitting chatting and I walked up and done the Broonie. All of them laughed and were telling me where to go, except one guy.

He started giving me some abuse calling me a bead rattler, immigrant ( Lived in Scotland all my life!) and then started going on about child abuse in the Catholic Church!.

So I just walked away and never spoke to the guy since, a few of the Rangers fans done the same and told him how out of order he was.

It'll be like this on both sides, some like you when they're winning then can turn on you when things go up the river for thier team.

'Tis only football at the end of the day.

Football isn't a matter of life or death, it's much more important than that

I always view Celtic fans as celtic fans and Tims. Celtic fans are fine and you can have a bit of banter with them, Tims are just blinkered. They can never complement anything to do with Rangers and think their club can do no wrong.

Most people on here (well the old 606 in any case) are fine but some float between decent and maggot imo.

I also think it's harder to detect the tone when reading these pages and the default Scottish approach is if in doubt get agro. I do agree that we need to remember others can read these pages and must be astonished at the vitriol. It amazes me how little time we actually spend discussing the teams themselves.

90% is just banter, but some on both sides really take it too far.

i ve watched many a thread deteriorate into a slaggin match, but if you really step back from it can be funny the way we will argue about ANYTHING

Westend

I don't think the Old Firm 606 pages are a true reflection on the average Rangers and Celtic fan.

I think the 606 pages make us look better than what we truly are.

Sad but true.

Real Hatred or Extreme Banter-

Is one not closely followed by the other?
Or are they one and the same?

Personally,I coach kids football. At what point should I instill this mindset?

For me it's good banter with the likes of puyol and atheist but morons like Ishy,LENNON LOVES IT ZONAL and more or less 90% of Rangers posters turn it into hate.

I think 606 also brings out the worst in people establishment.

the most offensive guys on here spout of from the safety of their own computer with no risk of come back.

i'd doubt they'd do it in the street.

its also mood dependant, I'm an argumentative cant, so sometimes like an argument.

but lifes too short to hate over football

___________________________

I don't think there is anything wrong with arguing over footy whether it be on tinternet or in the street.

When it becomes a situation where violence is used in the street or offensive remarks (gone beyond wummery) come into play then we have a problem but I don't think 606 is that bad really.

Difference between hating and arguing - for me anyway. I don't mind argumentitve celtc fans - as long as its not offensive of course.

I think 606 Old Firm fans are relatively mild compared to the average die hard.
