I actually dread an England match coming up as it means a week without PL football

..........

We've got another break in Nov for a couple of friendlies

Squid exactly!

Thats why im actually pleased we dont have many Spurs players in the England squad, feel bad for the likes of Lennon when he is not included, but its too risky

What makes it worse is all these meaningless friendly's the FA persist on having just to pay for the Wembley Stadium

Who's idea is it to host a friendly game a few days before the start of a PL season...EVERY season

I know this article is not about international football...

Well you could cut out the Euro qualifiers out for a start - from EURO 2016 there will be 24 teams in the finals, thats almost half the total nations in UEFA - I don't really see the point of the likes of Spain, Germany, France, Italy and ourselves going through the 12 months of qualifying when its clear:

A) the bigger nations will almost always qualify
B) UEFA needs the bigger nations to take part for revenues

Bit unlucky with the internationals.
But the Spurs "training" does seem to put the icing on the cake too often, do they not ...

Don't use the words "break" and "friendlies" !!!

and then another break after 2 prem games ....

If you look at the flags that are at an England game there are no Prem teams just Div 1 , 2 and non league .......I'm certain that the vast majority of Prem fans feel the same as you and I

Well going by the articles put up during the weeks of International Football...no one is in favor of it

Its boring, predictable and a blooming annoyance

The only reason why i might enjoy Internationals, and even this is stretching myself..is during the summer when there is no football on the TV, at least there will be a World Cup or Euros to watch

If we had no Prem-less weekends then the Season would end in April instead pf May and we could use that time to have a qualifying tournament for the following years major tourneys or indeed the tournaments themselves so every season we'd have a season ender

Galvin :

Because friendlies were infrequent compared to the business of qualifying stages.

And of course the corporate greed fest that is the current UEFA tournaments. Even when we had 22 teams in Div 1, the Champions/CW/UEFA cup did not have reams of pointless games to get to the actual finals to add to the burden (and I remember the Spurs 81/82 season) .

I wouldn't mind if Qualifying for the Tournaments was all done in the summer and well away from the PL season, but it would never happen, apparently football players need months off, they get tired bless em

RRP if you did it my way then the season would end at the same time as it does now even with a quailifing tourney thrown in

Squid - I like your idea, instead of stretching the qualifying rounds out over a year, play them all in a month or so, in a way the qualifying rounds would become a mini tournament in itself

Why not just revert back to the old format (qualification, no leagues, 2 legs H/A = KO) ??

Simple. Corporate greed (CL = the effective super leagues some desire) .

Galvin,

elitist yes but imo less is more, look at the success of the Rugby World Cup - alright you get a couple of walkovers in the group stages but they don't have to faff about for 12-15 months prior qualifying for the thing.

eg EURO 2016: Have the top 8 teams qualify automatically, then the other 40 odd nations duke it out in qualifying...
