Good shout. We the citizens are not counting our chicks yet though. 15 points from safety is still ingrained in most of our minds. But we will at least enjoy today's victory and the bragging rights that comes with it till we meet again in April.

We are not Liverpool dear boy. The title isn't won in October.

Utd will be there or thereabouts in May and anyone who thinks otherwise does not know anything about Utd or our manager.

I know the results Johnny, thanks for illustrating my point

Jumping the gun a bit. Despite utds capitulation today you would be very foolish to right off sir alex. Fergie said there will be a response and i reckon this is not in the form of future results but in the dropping of some players who may be underperforming in their duties. SAFis v unforgiving will not take this lightly and some pro careers at utd may have came to an end today.

As far as Man city go you cannot right this result off as a fluke. They look equipped and ready.

Citeh have better players in most positions and better depth.

Fergie will get the chequebook out to close the gap.

As I said, no obituaries you can never write a Ferguson team off but the manner of the defeat cannot be dismissed as a fluke.

City are a team full of talent, are well drilled and have a manager with the vision required for long term success.

If it's our biggest home defeat in more than half a century I think you can safely say it's a fluke

It was a terrible result for Man United but no fluke - check your definitions Thunder.

It was a fluke and wouldn't of happened if Evans had done his job properly. That is all.

Nah haven't you heard mate, apparently we've been 'found out' and all teams coming to OT from now on are going to do a City and knock 6 past us each time.....that's the word on the street anyway

No fluke.

The home team were ill-equipped, ill-prepared and tactically out-thought and came up against a better side.

The margin may have been a once in a generation occurrence but the result was deserved and the impact of the sending off was negligible. It would probably have ended 2-1 not 6-1. Same 3 points to City.

So you didn't wath the game then? City weren't in it first half and were very lucky to be a goal up at the break

trying to emulate the forest result and subsequent confirmation of a new power is the template for any club,
nothing succeeds like success, some might say it gets harder- it doesnt once you establish yourself as an elite club it all gets much much easier,as all the flotsam of opinion falls into line,

Watched it avidly Thunder and not much was actually created in the first half by the home side despite plenty of possession and plenty of huffing and puffing.

Is it May already? 'cos I could have sworn that's when they give the prizes out.
Anyone who writes off either United or Chelsea at this point is an idiot; they've both proved that they can put a run together when it comes down to the business end of the season. United in particular have shown time and time again that they can haul a team back in. Didn't they make up something like 10 points on Newcastle after Christmas?
There's a long way to go yet.

How 'bout some, City get a prize now cos they just won their cup final

I'm certainly not writing Manchester United off in terms of the title but I think Phil McNulty (BBC Sport's chief football writer) summed it up pretty well in his recent blog:

"As United were reduced to chaos in the closing minutes in front of a rapidly-emptying and inappropriately-named "Theatre Of Dreams" the questions came almost as fast as the goals, three scored by City in stoppage time.

Was this the most significant result in recent Premier League history? Was this the day the tide finally turned, not just in Manchester but in England?

The significance of result, and the manner of it, must not be questioned. The backdrop to the derby was framed in the context of Roberto Mancini's approach and whether City had the self-belief to flex their growing muscles on their neighbours while coping with the pressure of leading the Premier League.

Mancini and City had this opportunity to make a statement in the toughest environment of all.

It was duly delivered in the most powerful style possible as 20 minutes of United domination gave way to City turning their full power on Ferguson's team in a way even their most wildly optimistic supporter would not have thought possible.

City are the finest and most talented team in the country at this moment. If anyone needs convincing, study Silva's pass for Dzeko's final goal, a thing of beauty and creation from the best player in the Premier League this season.

This does not mean anyone should be emboldened to make definitive long-term predictions based on one afternoon Ferguson and United will be keen to portray as a freak of footballing nature as opposed to a sign of what is to come."

Very well said Phil

Anyone looking at the performance and result objectively must agree with Phil's comments.

No titles awarded in October is a trite truism but the manner of this victory at the home of the champions will give City even greater belief now.

How they build on this result will determine the destiny of the title.

It's theirs to win now.
