I'd be tempted to use different urls to different identical surveys depending on where you post it, just in case one link gets compromised and filled with junk submissions.

You don't want to invalidate all the good survey data.

hmm, so you are suggesting that i should make another, identical survey, and then use one to send people who i know and then the other on anonymous platforms?

how would i know that the answers are by russian bots instead of real people?

You don't necessarily. But you'd notice it wasn't right. What you don't want to lose all the data because it gets corrupted. Which could happen if a) ja606 folk just mucked about or b) pro trump bots got hold of the Facebook link

Basically if one of the identical surveys gets wrecked you can just ignore that data branch without invalidating your project or masters

Although you aren't allowed to log up addresses. You could still geo-fence the survey to block submissions from no us IP addresses.

not sure if that is possible with the platform i am using, but i am also interested in answers from us citizens outside of the usa

my main worry is not getting enough respondents tbh

I'd just be very careful about posting the same survey link across various websites and social media. As if the data gets tainted then you'll not be able to untangle it.

See emailing a small club or society in the US such as a knitting circle or a model airplane club etc etc. I think you'd get a decent amount of them would contact their members on your behalf.

the thing is, with all the respondents that i get from friends and their friends, i am guessing most of them will be liberals, so if i post one survey online and one jsut friends, there will probably be a difference anyway

I'd say it could definitely happen due to the survey being anonymous. But if you spend months and get 900 decent responses and then 100 from trolls cause it ends up on say 4chan. You can't cherry pick what you do and don't include. But you could junk link x and all the responses and still have a data set that passes scrutiny.

If you split it in to say four surveys you can afford to lose 25% of your responses cause one got trashed and still have a meaningful data set.

Contacting basketball fan clubs would likely give you quite a diverse group of political opinions. The most diverse cities in the US are pretty much all in california but is far from politically liberal.
