Sorry to hear that Tommy
Not heard of Hirucoid for treating Chilblains.. isn't that just similar to Arnica in aiding blood flow to bruises?
I know boots have a Chilblains cream for around £5. But that's just for treatment and symptom management not prevention. But it could help if he's suffering quite bad.
I know for me personally, this time of year and around september/October are the worst times for it. Although it's not as cold, it's the changes in temperature which cause Chilblains and Raynauds.
There are some prescription medicines but they lower your blood pressure, so I was advice against taking them... and i don't think they would even be an option for a 9 year old!! You could ask your Dr about ginko biloba, it's the only thing i've found which helps with out any recognisable side affects. Well that and Aspirin, but again, I don't think it's advised to give your child aspirin, especially over long periods of time.
Other than the Gink Biloba (it's natural but not sure if it's advisable for children) and wrapping up warm there's not much you can do. I brought some special socks solely for football because it was really affecting me and I rarely have any issues while wearing them, but they were like £40. Then for my hands I wear some fine linen gloves underneath some thin water and wind resistant gloves used for scuba diving lol. Occasionaly I'll use a foot powder too, as with Raynauds in particular moisture can lead to other issues if expose to long.
Cost me abit of money and if it wasn't for football I wouldn't have brought them, but they've helped incredibily! Sorry for the essay but hope that helps a little
