the manager for me

Great post. We don't need Martin O'Neill, we nee the NEW Martin O'Neill.

What had O'Neill done before Leicester? He'd worked wonders at lower league clubs.

Look at Adkins and Lambert - two further great examples of young hungry managers making a name for themselves.

We need to find the new O'Neill.

Mind you, if we can't find him, id still take the old or back....

By the way, I'm not saying I necessarily agree with your endorsement of Davies (meh is a word that springs to mind when I think about him) but the sentiment of giving an less proven manager the chance.

mersey, i only say davis because he is the best of the pick out of "out of work managers". last thing we need right now, is to take months to get a replacement in

i cant believe roberto di matteo is not being mentioned!
he did excellent at mk dons, got west brom promoted, plays attractive football and has good contacts!!
he is a better version of paulo sousa!!
he is the man for me!!

Billy Davies has got to be the choice if not MON. Why? He has done the business with 3 different teams in this league on limited budgets. Although not the most likeable man, he would certainly give the players the kick up the backside they need. Let's at least try to get out of this division before getting carried away on whether the manager is good enough for the Prem. I think BD could achieve that goal, even this year.

MGLCFC, I question what Billy Davies has actually achieved.

He managed to get Derby both promoted and regulated in the most embarrassing record breaking fashion possible.

Other than spend more money than we have in the last 3 years whilst he was at Nothingham, and achieve buggar all.

Whilst his time at Preston he managed to fluff his lines in the Playoffs, which isn't unusual, a bit like that fella Dave Jones.

I'd put Warnock in with those two to make the 3 playoff Stooges, should Warnock be now up in the Prem.

BD may well get us up, but he isn't a Prem manager.

Sven may have been a Premier League manager, but was he ever going to get us there? What I am saying, is of all the candiates available Billy Davies has the best record - with Preston, Forest and Derby he has been there or thereabouts every season. You say he has achieved b****r all. well play off two seasons running is better than what we achieved and had Forest invested in January when they had games in hand, I think they would have been promoted automatically. Whilst I'm not his biggest fan, I do think he'll get us into the Prem - whether he's good enough to keep us there is another issue. But let's walk, before we start running.

Both Davies and Jones would be alright for me - someone who you'd say: "Ok, not a bad appointment at all; let's see what you can do."

Di Matteo would be a very interesting one IMO. He's had success in a couple of places and played good football along the way. He's also got experience of taking a good squad up to the Premiership in the first season of asking. All in all, I'd be very happy with Di Matteo as an appointment. Whether he'd leave his position at Chelsea is another matter.

billy davies couldnt keep derby in the prem and couldnt get forest in the prem....100% failure

Sorry MGLCFC, we don't need a playoff manager, we need a promotion manager. Neither of them have the CV to do it.

They may well be the best of the names touted about, but they both are unsuccessful in achieving promotion. Derby can't be counted simply based on their following season going down as the most embarrassing in Premiership history.

But he got them there - and has had two successive goes in the play offs. Better record than most recent Leicester mangers.

Who would you go for spherical - please don't say RDM as he won't leave Chelsea. Sven was supposed to be our ticket to the big time - before he left play offs were our best hope (and could still be)

Dunge has it spot on for me.

Doubt we'll get RDM away from Chelsea though but he would be right up there if we could. Probably go for Davies over Jones and it seems we do have the ability to make that choice as both are interested so the worst we could do would be to get one of them which is good - unless Top inexplicably employs someone like Strachan of course!

The whole thing is so frustrating isn't it? It's not the getting rid of Sven so much as the obvious lack of credible candidates waiting in the wings.

I'm sure there are many managers waiting to be the next MON, but it's such a risk appointing them. For every Paul Lambert or Nigel Adkins there is a Peter Taylor. If it was long term stability we were looking for then I'd probably advocate a punt on one of the up and coming breed.

The signs are, however, that the owners want certainty. A quick win from a person of experience who can spend the money and motivate a team. That's why I'm thinking short term and wondering who could motivate the squad in the remaining 7 or 8 months.

MON is the only name that I would be totally convinced could lift us so quickly. Of the others I think the horrible little man Billy Davies could probably give them a rocket up the jacksie and propel us up the table.

I've said on other threads that, with MON unlikely to come back and BD so unpleasant, I'd plump for Alan Curbishley. People forget that, in the day, he was doing similar things to what MON did for us, at Charlton.

It used to frustrate me that MON was always linked with every job whereas AC was left alone and he didn't have Martin's charisma. I'm pretty sure that he'd be a fairly safe bet if we didn't fancy a gamble.

Ok here goes with my chioce.Obviously people have differing views.

I'd like to see Lee Clark given the job with perhaps Kevin Keegan helping in some sort of capacity. But i think he would be the sort of person the owners would like to promote the club back in Thailand.

Yes i know he(Keegan) has been out of work for sometime as have some of the other names mentioned (Dowie,Strachan etc).

I think Keegan would also be someone Clark could turn too & learn from. Also both have worked together when Keegan was manager at Newcastle & Clark a player, so know eachother.

Both seem to like playing attacking football with Keegan at Newcastle & Clark at Huddersfield scoring plenty of goals.

When we attack teams like we did against Derby & Southampton in the 1st half we absolutely played them off the park. But when we seemed to try & hold on to what lead we had we seem to panic & conceed silly goals.

I also think with an attack minded team this would bring the best out of Beckford & Nugent & even Schlupp.

I know people will think this crazy but like i've said everyone has their own views as to who would be the best man or men for the job.

For me, crazy only for the inclusion of Keegan. One for the history books, and sometimes seems one sandwich short of the full picnic.

Seriously though, we'd better get some stability and 'motivation' in soon. There are three big games coming up in the weeks ahead starting today.
