Should keep him

posted on 15/6/11

technically one of our better players, wish him the best if he's off. Would rather keep in the squad though.

Rather have him than cole or johnavic

My thoughts are that he is not a top winger and is on £90k a week.

Good luck Maxi and thanks for the hattricks

Woohoo!

Another one i remember!

In Kk's post match interview (against Brum I think), he dropped a heavy hint that perhaps Maxi would be leaving in the summer.

Couldn't agree more, especially as you paraphrased Douglas Adams.

I saw him play at the world cup and I was honestly disappointed with his ability on the ball, not technical enough for pool, 90k a week is ridiculous, it was really a poor transfer for whoever brought Maxi in. Mark my words; he is not going to make it in this league. Forget the hat tricks; I have seen donkeys get them.

He is one of the most technically fifted players in our squad. I don't think you can criticise his transfer (wasn't he a free)

Experience and technical ability for a free transfer is good business if you ask me not to mention his decent goal return.

sorry, meant to say 'gifted'

I genuinely do not know which Maxi you have been watching. Granted he got some goals towards the end of the season but honestly, do you think he is one of the most technically gifted players in the squad?

He lacks pace, always plays the safe option, not the greatest passer long or short and can't go past a man. His left foot is for standing on, he can't head the ball and cannot tackle.

So?

he can't head the ball

------

He scored a lovely cushioned header at the Kop, perfect weightage and direction whereas most players would have through themselves at it.

Was always the biggest Anti-Maxi out there, then he started scoring for fun.

Still not convinced, though - 'one swallow does not a summer make', as my Grandma used to say. Though when she said it to Grandad, I think they may have been talking about something else. Ick.

He also scored some hattricks but one game does not make a career.

If you like him that's fine, I have no issue with the lad. But in reality he is a poor footballer and the stats back this up let alone the performances for 18 months.

posted on 15/6/11

To say he's poor is a bit harsh.
But as a winger he lacks pace and the ability to beat a man
However he is good on the ball and has an eye for goal.

Lots of unsupportive comments for Maxi here, he is obviously a quality player, creating chances, taking chances and he has been doing this for years.

Keep in mind he is on his 3rd manager now, he never got much of a chance under Rafa, Roy didn't know how to manage the team and now Dalglish is starting to stamp his authority on the squad he has started to show the talent we were promised when he arrived.

So I expect to see more of that from him in the coming season and to set the doubters straight, just like Lucas and Kuyt has.

Just to back up my previous post if you took out the two hattricks he would have scored 5 goals in 44 games. This means the fact he can't tackle or head the ball or the more relevant because if you ain't stopping goals, if you ain't setting goals up and you ain't scoring what are you doing?

Going missing.

Maxi has been a good player for us this season. If he does leave it will be unfortuante because with the type of players we are looking to bring in, he would relish it.

Often fans will jump on the back of this type of player, due to him being a good team player who works and tracks back, barely losing the ball. The problem is, he has no pace and doesn't do tricks, which will lose him points with some of the fans. Not for me. Maxi was one of our best players during this season and has shown outstanding character and confidence to come back in, when dropped from the team after a few poor performances and play so well. These are the types of players who should be rewarded, not the types who do stepovers and run fast, then get to the box and blast the ball into the stands.

His short passing is outstanding and his creativity and ability to be so clever with his runs causes big problems for the opposition.

The thing is, you have to build a team. Maxi will be more effective when he has people making runs around him, which Suarez and Kuyt have been doing at the end of the season. Andy Carroll will be effective when he has players that cross the ball to him. These are all different options and players who work differently with different types of players.

I would be disappointed to see Maxi go but if he did go, I couldn't blame him. It seems our fanbase think without stepovers and pace, you are not a good footballer. Hah. If only, you knew.

spot on.

He is not a 'poor' player by any stretch.

He's not 'poor', but can you stretch it to 'good'?

Personally I'd like him to get a longer chance under Kenny, who seemed to get the best out of him at the end of last season - but if he doesn't pull it out the bag next season there'll be lots of, 'I told you so's' from lots of angles. TBH looks like he wants away anyway, which is the main thing.

That's the biggest pile of s**t I've read ont his thread.

You're basically saying I do not knwo what I am talking about. I am one of Kuyts biggest fans, likewise lucas and if 606 was around you could check my history.

The fact of the matter is that for 16 out of 18 months he was a very poor player for us. You mention he was dropped.... have you thought why?

If you think he was one of our best players this season then you are on drugs. He only turned up at the end and even then shinned in the goals. He has been given plenty of opportunity and basically failed.

Players like Lucas and Kuyt were arounf all season, when we were playing badly, and Maxi was nowhere to be seen.

Yeah. Maxi Rod is a good player.

I think thats an unfair sweeping statement. Who is our team apart from Suarez has pace and does stepovers?!

Stevie does the odd stepover!
