Except why would 3 pennies = Tuppeny... was thrupenny a coin?
2 farthings was a half penny
2 halfpennys were a penny
3 pennies and thats where I got lost
wasnt it thruppeny bit? I really don't know Im used to 2,600 lira been a quid
Surely 2 thrupennies would make a sixpence...
I know this shows me up as an ignorant youth, but I just don't understand why decimalisation wasn't used sooner. The old system makes less than no sense to me.
On the right lines pre-decimal coins
2 farthing = 1 ha'penny
2 ha'penny = 1 penny
3 pennys = 1 thrupence
2 thrupence = ?
What other coins were there? Crowns?
Surely 2 thrupennies would make a sixpence...

2 Thruppenies... Sixpence surely. Or a crown. I don't know any other ones if shilling is wrong too. Was a florin a coin? For some reason I can never remember if florins were coins or bottles.
Blimey, that was a bit too much for a Tuesday afternoon.
Arctotherium was the biggest carnivorous land mammal yet discovered. What are its modern descendants?
Bear is good enough Tatter - its closest descendant is actually the spectacled bear, but I figured that was a bit specific.
