if it werent for them killie would be rock bottom, heffs 10 shiels 6 (and he is still our player) still like to think shiels still has a future at rovers and can be a big asset when he returns

A bit cynical, I know, Azza, but i wonder if Willie McKay realises Dean Shields is still on the Rovers books.

I hope so bob didn't have much opportunity when odriscoll was here only ever considered when we had injuries of came off the bench when games were lost kind of like Stuart Elliott! But with mackay he'll want players to come in and flog them on so he gets a cut.

Yes Azza, but if he keeps bringing in the likes of Diouf, we won't be at the bottom for long.

That was my point, I am not sure how long a loan Deano is on at Killie, but surely the ultimate aim would be to link up with his dad permanently there so there would, if McKay plays his cards right, be a fee involved there. Like you I would like to have seen a bit more of Shields, possibly, playing the role that Gillett plays, Shields has a bit more "bulk" and maybe wouldnt get nudged off the ball quite so easy.

I don't know if anyone watched SSN yesterday but they commented after Shiels scored that his dad was thinking they wouldn't be able to keep hold of him and that Rovers might want him back

Let him stay where he wants to be, with his dad. I certainly think he would not fit in here. He and Heffs are happy there so why spoil what he will want and his dad. Have we forgot the last seven days already. Something's are bigger than football

I think Shiels is in his last season with us - apart from getting regular football, he has family reasons for wanting to be in Scotland. As much as I rate him as a player and would love to see him doing some damage for us, I agree with Bally - some things are more important than football. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14358634.stm

Never thought I'd see the word 'bulk' applied to Deano

Like I said that was SSN, I don't think he'd be any better than what we have and if we're cutting the wage bill why recall someone who will probably struggle to get into the first team?

I believe your all missing my original point that SOME fee (you know that folding stuff) should be involved in making his move permanent.

Understand your point BDB - maybe Killie can buy him in January. All we're saying i think is that although we'd love him back, if he's happier in Scotland, let him stay. If we can get our original £50k back, then great!

I think it could have been more than £50K

hey by all means if hes happy there and with the prospect of playing in an ayrshire derby to get to a league cup final playing with an ex team mate whom he gets on well with and under your father then good luck to him!
