Ooh...aren't you brave?
And probably VERY hard.
Well done.
bet whu go promoted though!
now i remember why i tend to read these pages more than comment, thanks Joe Hart, i would call you a tool but a tool is actually useful sometimes.
I'm not surprised Big Sam has gone for Nolan and Faye and as the OP says I wouldn't be astonished if Diouf shows up there sooner or later. Sam is looking for the kind of players that know how to get out of the Championship and stay out.
El-Haj in particular has never made any secret of the fact Sam's his favourite manager while Kev Nolan has always performed for the big man.
If I was a hammers fan I think I'd have to accept that playing pretty pretty football needs players with the class to do it and they never had enough of them over the last few seasons. Scott Parker pretty much carried them on his back and eventually time and luck ran out. Sam will start out as he did with us. Get the players playing to their strengths, mix the one touch silky skills types with strong men who know how to win the ball in the first place. Getting back to the prem at the first attempt is harder now than it ever was. Just ask Hull or Burnley for a start.
However with Sam at the helm if I was a hammer I'd be feeling a lot more confident this morning. The only real question I suppose is will Gold and Sullivan get out of Sam's way and let him get on with the job. And will the hammers fans give him the time he needs to do it. Whether they like it or not that club looked like a disorganised mess with zero morale for most of last season. Sam can and will change that but maybe not overnight.
Do yourselves a favour hammers. Don't expect to win ten nil every week and don't expect Sam to work miracles. If your players had been all that good you wouldn't BE in the Championship. Parker and Green aside too many of them seemed to lack the stomach for the fight last year. Sam will fix that first. Or he'll get rid of them and replace them with men who do.
luckyPeterpiper: I agree. West Ham need someone who will instill discipline. As much as I loathe Allardyce's anti-football ethos, I think he will get us back up.
I disagee that you need class players to play pretty football. Our tradition has always been to play the game the right way, or, at the very least, attempt to do so.
The reason we got relegated was simply because we had an awful manager. The squad itself is full of quality, as will be demonstrated when most of them leave for Premiership clubs.
Norpig you should see Joe Harts Dance Instructor RUINING FOOTBALL SINCE 2008 AND PROUD's reason for him thinking that city have a great team spirit, because three of the team are going on holiday together! cracks me up everytime!
Still....i am at a loss to this play football the "right" way
Complete loss!
very good point BWFCCLEGG
As, I would expect, are most Bolton fans.
What is this 'right' way you speak of?
Being the worst team in the league?
myhammers the simple fact is that football is a results business first and foremost. Which is why after thirty eight games West Ham were bottom of the table.
I love attacking free flowing football and I thinkmost true football fans do BUT if you mean to play that way then you have to have the players on the field with the skills to do it. No offence to West Ham but you've been scraping sur for years nowand this time your luck ran out. Blackpool played better football than you and went ow for much the same reason. The philosophy is a good one, to ertain and I applaud it but withoutreal quality you will wind up in the bottom three.
By the way Sam knows how to play the pass and move, what marks him out as IMO the best English manager around is that he also knows how to adapt to the opposition and motivate his players to get the very best out of them regardless of system.
All I am saying is that when it's time to stop the opposition from imposing their game plan on you Sam knows how to set up a team to do just that. But if you think he's all about hoof it you're wrong. Jay Jay, Djorjaeff, Stelios, Campo, Anelka and Bobic all played in our shirt under sam and none of them are the hoof it and hope type. The sad fact is that most of the media are linkered, in love with London Clubs and only interested in teams from the North West if they play in red.
In many ways Sam is now startig where he came in for us. I hope you enjoy the same sort of excitement we did during his heyday. Don't take your opinion of Sam from the tired old 'dirty bolton' matra
