Wow JG - at least let the club announce Nige as our new manager before pouring on the vitriol! What are you going to be like after our next loss?
And hopefully stour we will be again
-----------------------------------------------------
I have no doubts what so ever!!!
When its official i unclench my buttocks and start looking forward to our climb up the table.
who said you cant get promo0 if you channge your manager in mid season?
come on nigel--make them eat their words
So basically you're probably not going to be there nor are your sons. Is that right?
Dunge -I could not have picked three better examples than you raise in your reply to confirm the uselessness of Pearson as a man manager of footballers who by the nature of their business are often in need of professional attention.
Recently in a press conference which you can source if you backtrack in the WBA web page- Hodgson paid fulsome tribute not only to the ability of Mattock but also his attitude in training and committment. Diffrence Hodgson is a manager- Campbell went on to become a team hero at Blackpool and his goals were responsible for their promotion- well managed ..? Gradel was top scorer for Leeds last season and terrorised defences with skill and speed ... but yes he did need managing... something that Pearson patently is incapable of providing.
The dressing room will see him now for an opportunist whose club loyalty was subject to the rustle of money... thats will be OK with them -as long as he doesn't pull out his sermon book with them.. thats the way it works
John, you give 3 examples of players where Pearson didn't tolerate them. 3 players I personally feel have no ability to compete above the championship and were no big loss.
But this terrible man manager you speak of also got the best of of many more players. Players you could argue hugely over performed under him.
Would you class Mertin O'Neill or Alex Ferguson as a poor man managers? Serious question, because I can give you plenty of more talented players than the dross you talk about above that those managers have fallen out with or not tolerated.
Look at it this way John, should you focus on the 3 players who Pearson refused to entertain, or the 22 other players who played for him, some rating him so highly they quickly followed him to Hull, an got us in to the play offs in his first season in the championship with an average squad.
I would very much argue you've made your mind up about Pearson, and can only focus on the negatives.
And for the record, some egos are worth tollerating die to their talent. Others, like Campmbell, Gradel an Mattock have found their place in football. Aren't they all doing do well playing for champions league teams... oh, wait a minute.
"we simply didn't pass the ball sideways for minutes on end before losing it and getting hit on the counter."
Dung thats the way forward not the getting hit on the counte bit.
For all my footballing life i have watched us battered on the rocks of an opposition who puts ten men behind the ball. pumping long balls into a box to be returned with interest.
Or you can move the ball sideways and backward to search out gaps to stretch the defence whilst building up the energy to attack again.
As for Pearson i don't care at the moment i will give him the time he needs and that will be more than he will get from the owners.
I cant believe (actually i can) fellow posters thinking on bring back it seems any one who played under Nige as if they will suddenly become world beaters.
Some where along the line as people are fond of reminding me we have to have the ambition in our standard of play to be a premiership team.
All the Best Lads.
Pearson will always be a Hero, to the Wednesday faithful, as he was a top Captain and i believe a top Manager.
John - Hodgson's bound to say that about Mattock. Meanwhile he's being loaned out to Championship clubs and playing decidedly poorly. And that's not to mention his fracas in the nightclub. Very ethical.
DJ Campbell was already a nightmare before Pearson arrived, showing no effort on the pitch and having several suspiciously timed injuries that kept him out. Afterwards he bad-mouthed our club at most given opportunities and deserted Blackpool once they got relegated after telling us not to get in the way of his "dream move" there. Very ethical.
Gradel I'll grant you is one player I wish had stayed. However, if he wouldn't be part of the team, who is he to demand a place over anyone else in an otherwise tight-knit group? We don't know how hard Pearson tried to make him part of the team, but he was part of his team for a full year or so before falling out. Incidentally, he's another one who no longer plays for the team he left for.
To suggest that Pearson is incapable of managing some players is to ignore the many others that he is blatantly very capable of managing. Look at how lost Hobbs and Fryatt were without their mentor, for instance; Waghorn and Morrison too. Just because they're not disruptive influences within the side, do they not count? Perhaps even removing such disruptive influences helped to make them better players...?
As for suggesting that he can't get his sermon book out with his players and stating "That's the way it works", sorry but that simply isn't the way it works. The man is their manager, not their friend of captain. They do what he says, and hopefully they feel they can have success doing that and that point out any perceived "hypocracy" isn't worth blowing their careers over because they're in a team that they want to remain a big part of. This is how things should actually work.
Nev, passing the ball around sideways is fine if you're Spain or Bacelona and have players who are considerably better than the opposition. It makes them extremely difficult to get hold of. We, however, do not have players who are considerably better than the opposition, hence why we see them consistantly lose the ball to them and get hit by exactly the kind of thing you say you find so frustrating - being unable to break sides down. If you look at his record, Pearson's team was always very good at this and they achieved it through fitness and attitude.
Dungeon, I agree with your post. However, I feel your final comment suggests Pearson managed what he did through hard work alone.
I would add very strongly to that that he did it through very astute tactical awareness of how to win games a) in the league we were in and b) with the players he had.
I'm not having a go at Pearsons football he did a great job with what he had,but last time again i think he had got as far as he could.
Let see what a MP.Mk2 can do with better players. I want him to sort the disipline No prob, make sure we are still giving it all in the last 5 mins and get us a controling midfield for Fuff sake and another target man please!!!!
I agree Merseyside that Pearson is more tactically astute than many give him credit for.
On the passing thing, there is nothing wrong with passing the ball sideways, whether your Barcelona or Bournemouth, as long as it's with a purpose to attack.
If you look at Barcelona, the thing that strikes you is the tempo of the passing and they do it at such speed that it is very hard to get organised and get men behind the ball to stifle them. With us, the tempo was far too slow and ponderous which made it easy for teams to defend against it.
So, there is nothing wrong with passing the ball sideways, as long as it is done with a purpose and an attacking intent rather than just to stop the other team getting possession.
BTW John, sorry, didn't originally pick up the sarcasm from you post.
