I agree Derby need a good start, and need to be playing attractive and exiting football.
I for one is very excited about the up coming season, we have pace in abundance, a midfield with an engine, and if we get Shakell, the back four will be solid, and we have a safe pair of hands.
I believe Clough and GSE have known for a while that we need to spend money, but they have waited to the end of the season for a number of reasons, the main one waiting to see what league we will be in.
We all know that if we a struggling again this season, Clough will lose his job, but if we a challenging the playoffs, his job will be safe and deservedly so
I think it was a combination of what you say. I feel sure, however, the yanks would not have been at all comfortable with the after-match protests which were well publicised.
They much prefer everyone to have "had a nice day" and match-day experience.
With much of the garbage we witnessed last season, this certainly wasn't the case and they were made aware of this in no uncertain terms.
It's been good to see Derby spending some decent money and appearing to spend it well.
I would not say NC is in the last chance saloon, his position is very secure as far as I see it. A bad start won't go down well, but for Nigel to be sacked, Derby would have to be in the bottom 3 by Christmas or very close to it.
With the signings and positive vibe being sent out, I can't see either of those things happening.
I think Nigel will have to really challenging for those play offs to keep his job. I have heard around the ground they have expectations of top six. Its also great to see the board do exactly what they said at the start and spend money, some people will still hate them because they can't stand to admit the board are doing something good for the club.
I really can't wait for next season it will be very interesting.
As with a number of other fans I have been lucky enough to have spoken to Tom Glick in the last few weeks.
As many of the 606 faithfull know I have never been a GSE nor Tom fan. This said however the exchange he had with a number a fans recently was very open and honest.
AJ, his words certainly did not echo Cloughs job security. Glick was very clear that this season is about delivering and delivering well. Although Glick would not be drawn into Cloughs targets he did make it very clear that the pressure is on everyone and that the board were all aware that the vast majority of fans were now losing patience and results would dictate everyones future at the club.
Bryson is a very decent sigining, a strong almost old 'skool' midfield general not frightened of a tackle and how can spot that killer pass. Brayford is fast becoming one of the best RB in the league and Like another poster has said with a certain CB possibly arriving shows we are looking strong across the board.
However the one area we are struggling is LB I personally have very little faith currently in RToberts and he has certainly not showed himself to be the player he was at Donny.
I agree with your comments about Left Back. We need to sign a first choice LB. JR certainly not good enough.
A decent Left Back and a creative midfielder which we haven't had since Oakley and the jigsaw might start to come together....
